Is running back on the table for the panthers this draft?

There always are. That is the smart time to be going RB because they are almost always BPA

Even more so this year with many saying this is the best running back class they have ever evaluated. So selfishly wanting to take advantage of that depth I can't see us not taking one at some point.

If only we drafted like that. Common sense (last year too SMH) that this draft was the time to pick up a RB. We just tend to be stupid and draft an injured RB (who’ll miss 2 years) as the top RB in a weak class.

We actually have a need at RB this year so we should use one of the many day 3 picks on a RB.

You nailed it... It was a weak rb class last year and to take one still recovering for a injury in a weak class was hilariously bad... You threw a second in the toilet. He won't see the field until on the 3rd year of his rookie contract with one year left and we still won't know if he will be healthy.

Well getting a 4th or 5th round RB is also likely to be a cheaper option that free agency, too.

I just don't want to see us do that in the top 3 rounds unless it is someone like Hampton falling to the 3rd.

I will tell you a guy I like is Brashard Smith from SMU. Former WR and KR that converted to RB. Probably the most elite receiving RB in this draft. Could be our Austin Ekeler type back.

So going off the ESPN rankings.. I Jenty is out of the question we not taking a run round 1. Hampton is my dream.. but I see him going round 2 so unlikely. Late round 2 early round 3 I see Henderson and judkins and skattaboo going off the board also unlikely. After that I'm open to RJ Harvey.. I love Martinez.. he's the type I would hope to snag with all our 4th round capital.  Neal from Kansas is good also the Iowa back I forget his name. Trevor Etienne is interesting not sure where he goes. But options are out there.

On day 3 we Should be taking one.

i could easily see them using one of our 4ths on one.   Everyone is talking his this is one of the strongest and deepest RB class’s in several years.   There should be a stud falling out of day 2.

This is a multi back league.
Sanders will probably be cut.  And really, we should go in as if Brooks isn’t even apart of this team as bad as it sounds.  He is going to miss his first 2 seasons as a rookie and back to back major knee injuries to a RB is hard for guys playing that position who rely so much on cutting etc.

Canales cones from the Pete Carrol tree.  And when Dave was in Seattle.

2016 took RBs rd 3 And rd 5

in 2018 they took a RB in rd 1

2019 they took a RB in rd 6

2020 took a RB rd 4

2022 took a RB 41st overall (rd 2)

2023 took a RB 52nd overall (rd 2)

5 out of 8 drafts took a RB rd 4 or higher

Wouldn't surprise me tbh. With JB being more than likely done for the upcoming season and dealing with his second ACL tear in that knee, the team can't just assume that he's going to be available.

Taking a late round flier on a power guy and letting him get the occasional touch behind Chuba/Miles will help with keeping them healthy so that in 2026 the team can walk into the season with a three-headed monster in the backfield.

At this point, you move on from Brooks. Deal him when he is healthy or if he is able to come back at all, possibly have him as the #2 if we eventually move on from Chuba.

Might as well pretend Brooks doesn't exist, which really doesn't take much effort since he hasn't in 2024 and won't again in 2025. He isn't a part of any future until he can stay healthy long enough to matter.

Could be an injury settlement or 90 man body in 2026 over making the roster then. It won't even be worth looking at or planning for until then. Best case he shows up and contributes in some way and worst case he has already played his NFL downs.

    • Am I the only one that didn't like either at the time and thinks it's funny they are all being humiliated by this 10 years later? Incognito threatened to steal his father's head from a funeral home? It's a fight between to crazy mofos and neither are likable people. Jerry springer level energy lol. Also Martin will just hide behind CTE if sued. He has always been unstable so good luck proving his words come from any place stable. And Ingognito would be a hard client to represent because the chances of him going off the rails in a trail would be almost guaranteed. What a poo show.
    • I am fully OK with smart trade downs - especially when you have as many needs as we do.  And don't sell our defense short - we weren't just the worst in Panther's history - we were the NFL worst OF ALL TIME!  And we seem to do alot better picking defensive players in the top 3 rounds than offense, so maybe we have a chance!
    • I'm against trading down. I'm in favor of staying put and picking the best defensive player/contributor for our woeful defense. However, if we could move down only 4 spots in round 1, come away with a midround 2nd round pick, and only have to give up a 4th round pick (which we'd probably use to pick a JAG), then I could actually stomach that.  That would give us 4 picks in the top 100 instead of 3! If we can't find 3 starters with a first round pick, two 2nd rounders, and high 3rd round choice for the worst defense in Panther's history, then it's time to get a new GM.
