"Objective" Position Battle Panthers vs Saint

why? theres no guarantee that Will Smith will repeat his success. my point is, we don't know what they can do as starters. no one has seen them full time. also that is comparing a guy who starts and another who comes off the bench. and look at Johnson's numbers, they aren't far from Smith's early numbers.

I understand your point but they are right in assuming the known is better than the unknown. While you are right by way of simple logic, you have to make a decision at some point about who is better and the only way to do that with "known vs. unknown" is with known.

I can agree w/ that. I still have my reservations though.

I, as well... may sound weird, but my opinion and my overall assessment are 2 different things.. thats one thing I try to get across with people on this message board..

for instance, I think Armanti Edwards has the potential to be a Steve Smith type player.. but I can't go around saying Armanti Edwards will definitely fill those shoes.. it's just a hunch based on a few factors: his toughness, work ethic, and skills.. but to go around claiming that would be ridiculous...

I agree, I just want to stress that its all an assumption. I see you have that. Some people though don't see it. I may sound like a dork or whatever, but I think you understand what Im trying to get at.

Well Porter was the starter before we drafted Jenkins and Greer came in and established himself as the clear number 1. Plus I think most people thought Jenkins was a FS, no matter how much Jenkins wants to fight it that's his future.

i know that.

but if jenkins couldn't consistently see the field last year with that poo show of injuries going on, that's pretty pathetic.

you can't point to one upcoming first rounder to lock down a position when there's another first round DB doing nothing i mean learn you lesson foo

Greer really only started the last few years, the last two years he's had injury problems but he's played every game before that. Obviously injury is always a concern but Greer was ready to go in the playoffs and had a great year when he did play.

that's what i love in players. hoping they just get healthy at the right time. some call it spunk. some call it grit. i call it catching lightning in a bottle and im a firm believer in doing it every year.

But he did see the field. He started the 6 games that Porter was out.

And I'm not saying Patrick Robinson will start, I only said he would provide depth behind Greer and Porter. Since sean payton has been here we've been really lucky with our draft picks so I am hoping that trend continues. Patrick robinson is unknown, but he is fast, talented and we snatched him from the vikequeens:

Last year around this time, Vikings coach Brad Childress crowed about snatching Percy Harvin one pick before the Patriots, who Childress believed was set to take him.

This year, Childress and Vikings G.M. Rick Spielman may have outsmarted themselves.

Both Judd Zuldad and Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune report that the Vikings traded down to No. 34 with the hope of selecting Florida State cornerback Patrick Robinson.

The reason malcom jenkins dropped to us in the first place even though he was clearly the best secondary talent was his poor 40 time at the combine. The fact is that he just doesn't have the makeup speed to play pure man coverage and that's all we run in NOLA. But the guy has a knack of making huge plays and always being around the ball. Who knows if he'll ever be a starting FS but he won't this year with a future HOF in sharper starting ahead of him.

Well Porter has been injured both season he's been in NOLA but Greer has played full seasons most years he was playing. I'm not concerned about Greer, but Porter's injuries are becoming an alarming trend since he was on IR his rookie season. All the more reason to draft a first round talent at CB in a league that's becoming more and more about having an elite QB and a dangerous passing attack.

Even with the time they missed Greer and Porter were one of the better CB tandems in football last year, I'll be looking forward to what they can do next year.

see thats where I disagree. if they are unknown than how does anyone know if they are better or not. its all an assumption. It may not be fair to say we are better, but its also unfair to say we are worse based on assumptions

It's a lot less fair to give unproven players credit for stuff they haven't done. Imagine if Falcon's fans said Weatherspoon will be better than Thomas Davis.

the same thing keeps getting repeated. idk how many times I have to say I understand and in a sense agree w/ that point. My point is it works both ways.

QB-Saints, but Panthers will be fine at QB.

RB- Panthers no contest

WR- Push, Smith is the best WR though Brees uses everyone of his wide outs effectively, Panthers have new playmakers at WR and larger commitment for passing and will be a more balanced team. Brees and Co will have more yards but the Panthers WR combined with the running game will be very effective.

TE- Shockey is the best TE but in terms of talent, and the depth in Carolina I just don't see you guys being better than us here. Everyone knows Rosario and Barnidge can be serious threats, but we haven't really integrated them in the offense except maybe on a few occasions. You will call me homer here, but I don't care. CAR

O-line- Carolina

FB- Saints. Tony hasn't played.

DE- Saints for now, Carolina DE's are largely unknown but I think the talent is there. Between Brown, Johnson, and Norwood 1 or 2 of those guys will be effective.

DT- Same as above. Carolina has solid potential role players but again unproven. Saints

LB- Carolina no contest

CB- Carolina, having Gamble gives us the edge here I think. Plus the Panthers are loaded at CB with some solid prospects with Captain and Marshall.

SS/FS- Wherever Martin goes, SS or FS he will be great. I'm not sure what's going to happen with Godfrey. So I'll split this one.

you don't even have a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th wide receiver. smith is getting into his 30s and not what he once was although he's still good. i mean for fug's sake the guy is trying to find a replacement for himself, he knows the end is near. that is as crazy as me trying to argue we have better rbs.
