Back Breaker

I predicted this. People bash Madden but I knew this game would be a flop. You can't expect amateur developers (aka, ones you have never heard of) to produce a great game. Great games are not the norm, they are the exception. Plus, their whole point was dynamic tackles in order to beat Madden. How about gameplay first?

I should've posted "this is gonna be a flop" in one of those Madden threads...

Not hard to predict it since Madden/EA is the only one making real football games. If you think in a fair market there was no competition for Madden you are mistaken, in fact its very reasonable to say had it not been for EA's big bank you would be playing another series. EA bought all rights to NFL, but more importantly bought out the ESPSN 2k series (not sure if you consider this brand generic).

They bought it for good reason, it was a better game compared to any Madden at that time if you go by popularity and sales it blew them away. Add on top of that it came out for $19.99 that was the nail in the coffin. EA realized that there was just no way they could make money and compete with a much better and cheaper game. ESPN was the ultimate competitor that would put Madden down for good and at the very least be solid competition. But EA had money and a lot of it so they bought ESPN 2k and NFL rights.

I have worked in gaming store for years and every time we had a Madden coming out all the employees would talk about what ESPN 2k10 would look like. That is when I stopped playing Madden, when I realized I was more being forced to play it. I'll still try it but when there is absolutely no competition it's not hard to be the best.

I can guarantee Madden beat any other football game and be the best actual game playing game for the length of their contract to exclusive NFL rights. I sitll play other EA games becasue at least those games have to be better than the competitions.

I guess I am just sour another company cannot make NFL games, I am curious to see what other developers other than EA can do especially when they are allowed to refine their work and come out with multiple seasons. I just don't believe ONE company can always have the best when another company might work 10 times as hard but isn't given the chance. EA has ruined the gaming of online football for me.

The game was never actually meant to be released.

They made a demo hoping ea would buy their game engine, since typically ea just prefers to buy out the competition instead of innovate.

EA thought it was poo and then the developers realized they had to release something to make some money and whelp.

Wow sad of EA and back breakers, but not surprising.

I guess this explains why it has taken over 3 years to release. I remember looking forward to this game back in 07.

I haven't gotten to play it yet but everyone I have heard that really loves it, stuck with it even though it was so hard to figure out. It sounds like it takes a couple of hours (or even days) to get it down. Its unfortunate that most (myself included) won't have the patience to do that.

It was a rumor that EA was going to buy it, NM were in talks with Rockstar and Lucas arts before that rumor even happened about implementing Euphoria into there games. It ended up debuting in GTA4 then Star Wars: Force Unleashed. It's also used in Red Dead Redemption as well as there own game backbreaker.

It's not middle ware and that's the main reason it's not in Madden, NM works hand in hand with the developer in implementing the euphoria into a game. So if you want to use it, you pay NM developers to come in and put it in your game.

Funny part is, now Madden and NCAA use a similar software that they've made in house and is the reason that you have the multiple gang tackles and improved Line blocking....ext.... Pretty much most of the improvements over the last 2 games plus 11 have came from EA using that new copy cat software.

It's taken three years because NM has worked on Star Wars Forced Unleashed, All three of the GTA4 games, and Red Dead Redemption. Not a whole lot of time for Backbreaker when your devs are working on 4 major games in a 3 year time period.

Also didn't the NFL lose its single entity lawsuit. That means to get the teams, you'd have to do it individually and the only part of the EA agreement that means anything is the NFLPA. Having the NFL license doesn't guarantee the teams now after that loss in court if I understand it correctly.
