Nowitzki Expected To Opt Out

He's not tough enough to carry a team by himself as the #1 option. Mavs have been to the playoffs every year the past 10 and aint got no hardware to show for it. They've had first round exits 3 of the past 4 years since CHOKING away the Finals in 06. Dirk is a great player and one of the best offensive weapons of this generation, but his game doesnt translate to playoff basketball. He's a 7 footer who likes working from the perimeter and cant dominate or defend from the post. He's more shooting guard than he is power forward. That being said, put him with another superstar as the #2 option and I think he could do damage in the dance.

I dont expect him to leave Dallas. Cuban's franchise is NOTHING without Dirk but a stable of overpaid softies. Even without Dirk, they're over the cap. Dirk is their main attraction and ticket seller, Cuban will mortgage the farm to keep him (foolishly). Watch!

I don't watch much pro basketball and I can't form an informed opinion about him, but how can a 7 footer NOT be able to dominate in the paint? I know he has range, but why not try to develop a low post game for him to compliment his range? has any attempt been made to develop that kind of game for him?

Avery Johnson made some of those types of demands towards Dirk about his game and defense. But IMO Dirk isnt comfortable playing that way. He excels in "Nelly Ball" a more uptempo game that allows him to spot up or make plays from the perimeter. He's a 7 footer that can put the ball on the floor and shoot with the best of them. He's also a very capable passer for a big man. That is a very unique skillset that causes matchup problems for most teams. Imagine him going to Phoenix and playing along side Nash again if Amar'e Stoudemire leaves this offseason.

He prefers to shoot and he usually avoids contact when I'm watching. He doesn't seem like he likes a lot of contact thus he just doesn't make a very good defensive or paint player.

Dirk reminds me of Pau Gasol. Not their styles of play or because they are seven foot Europeans, but because they put up great numbers and everyone assumes they are great. Stick them on their team without another superstar and look what happens... nothing. Everyone needs a sidekick to win a NBA championship. Kobe needed Pau and Shaq. D-wade needed Shaq. Duncan had a load of great veteran players plus Parker and Ginobli. Very very few players can win a championship on their own. Jordan even had Pippen. Mark Cuban is a great owner in terms of commitment, but he is too damn overzealous. Every year he tries to do something rash and ends up screwing the Mavs future by loading them up with aging overpaid players. He should have held onto Nash and never should have done the Kidd trade. Let Dirk leave. Rebuild now Cuban. This group of Mavericks will never win.........unless of course you added Lebron to the mix.

Lol, I still remember when Dirk let David West slap him in his face.

Anyways, he'll remain a Maverick. He's perfect for that team; a soft ass, amongst soft asses. Cuban wont let him go. The Mavs need a good big man to go along with Dirk

    • I want to throw in how much easier it is for a QB to develop and improve with a good oline.  Huge credit to the front office for spending the money on our two guards.  Cade Mays also had a 2nd really good game starting at center.  Love how he has developed and hope he's the real deal. Look at what Stroud is dealing with now in Houston after injuries and problems with their oline.  Strouds accuracy has been greatly affected as it seems like he doesn't trust his protection. Canales is doing a great job developing Bryce.  I think the QB whisperer might be for real. And obviously big props to Bryce.  First round pick that looks horrible in his first year.  Different coaches and systems.  Fans and media are calling him the biggest bust in NFL history and he looked like it in the first two games this year.  Gets benched.  Young man keep his cool and just continued to work and only worry about what he can control.  I hope things continue like this and we end up with a great success story. Bryce Young kept pounding.
    • Outside of Philly (who currently is #3 in pass defense) the rest of our remaining opponents are bottom 1/3 of the League in that regard.  Let's see what Bryce can do versus bad pass Ds.
