Which side are you on: Gayle Sayers or Brian Urlacher???

Gayle Sayers was asked about the Bears, and he answered:

"Cutler hasn't done the job," Sayers said, according to various reports. "They need a couple wide receivers, a couple defensive backs. They haven't done a good job."

(Sayers was speaking at a banquet to benefit Boys Town in his hometown of Omaha, Neb.)

"If Lovie doesn't do it this year, I think he's gone," he went on to say. "He had a good team the Super Bowl year. Nothing came together for him the last couple years."

(Sayers said he also doubts Urlacher will return to form after missing last season with a wrist injury.)

As for Julius Peppers, Sayers told the Omaha World-Herald that, "He's a good player, but he can't do it all by himself."

"I go to every game I can," he told the World-Herald. "I live or die with them."

Brian Urlacher then responded:

"Let me ask you a question: 'How many championships did Gale Sayers win?''' Urlacher asked. "How many playoff games did he win when he played? None. None. None.

"Does it bother me? There are enough people throwing daggers at us right now, why does one of our ex-players have to jump in? There are enough experts talking (crap) about us, so why does a Bear, an all-time great, have to jump in? I just don't like that.''

"Does (Sayers) know how to win football games? Does he?" Urlacher added. "No. How are you going to criticize someone else when you haven't done it yourself? He's one of our own, so that's why it's so frustrating.''

Sayers responded back with:

"When I am asked a question, I have to answer it,'' Sayers told the Tribune. "I don't want anybody to think I am afraid to talk about the Bears. … Right now, the Bears are hurting.

"And Urlacher, how old is he anyway? He should know that himself, that he is on the downside of his career."

Urlacher, who will be 32 next week, injured his wrist in the 2009 opener and was lost for the season.

"If somebody asks me, 'How do you think the Bears are going to do this year?' If I say, 'Oh, they are going to win 14 ballgames,' they know the Bears can't win 14 ballgames,'' Sayers said. "Why should I lie to the people?"

After reading what was said, what do you think? No polls this time ;)

Personally I have a few issues with this entire situation. First off, Gayle didn't just shout these out, he was asked a question, and answered honestly. Second everything he said was 100% true. Did he sugar coat it like some people would have liked? no, but why should he, hes earned the right to speak his mind, and answer honestly.

as for Urlacher, hes always been a douche and still is

I think Sayers hit the nail on the head, the truth hurts...

Urlacher responded by asking how many championships Sayers won and then calls him an all-time great? LOL

Sayers should have responded by asking how many movies have been made about Urlacher...

If Urlacher had any brain cells left (assuming he had any to begin with) he could have squashed this whole thing and still made his point simply by saying something like:

I respect Gale Sayers opinion, but in this case I disagree with him.

He could have even thrown in something like:

...He of all people shouldn't be counting someone out from returning to full strength after an injury.

It would have been a way of complimenting him while discounting his opinion at the same time.

It is funny how it is fine for gale Sayers to tell it like it is but when people like me do the same about the Panthers, I get criticized for being negative. Truth is the Bears are going to win more than the Panthers this year. Tag it so we can discuss after the season.

Sayers is right in his criticism of the wide receivers and some positions but I do think Chicago will be better this year. They have a pass rush and with martz at the helm the offense will be better. How much better remains to be seen.

Lets look at some differences, no one asks you for your opinion, and your not an NFL HOFer. Next what truths have you told?

I agree with Sayers. Like Mike Golic said this morning nobody likes being criticized. Urlacher was justified in saying he doesn't need the added critcism from former payers but was out of line talking about Sayers as a loser. Sadly great players have had to play with bad teams. Look at guys like Tony Gonzolez. It wasn't Sayers fault that the TEAM lost so many games because Sayers sure did what he was asked and more. Sayers is just saying what the majority of Chicago fans are thinking.
