I would say that's a poor choice of words on his part. He can convey the point that the Panthers were in disarray at best when he was drafted without calling the whole roster losers. There definitely were some quality players on that team. At the same time it shouldn't be confused that just any rookie QB would have came into that situation and flourished or gone on to be named rookie of the year. And also while I am very pro 89 there's also the reality that not just any QB let alone a rookie was going to be at all adept at managing his personality.

Anyways I think Cam needs to take a step back and assess this media persona he's created for himself. At some point with how he navigates this he is tarnishing his own brand and legacy for the sake of clicks and social media exposure. I mean he's giving credence to the things people used to say about him especially those who ironically were in the media. He's becoming that which he was victimized by because he still craves the limelight. That's unfortunate.

Cam acts like he's a respected authority who can criticize teams and other quarterbacks. I get why. If all these talking heads who've never thrown a football in their life can speak on it than why not a Heisman winner and MVP? Problem is the narrative that Cam was a gifted player who came up short because of his selfishiness is still alive and well.  So that gets thrown back in his face a lot and he takes the bait everytime.

It's all been downhill since the Game Changers vs Game Managers stuff. From anyone else that's normal sports talk, but Cam's legacy is still too up in the air to be criticizing the people actively doing it. . Just recently he was asked if he would trade the MVP for a SB ring and it set him up to basically diss his old team. And he has too much of an ego to just state his opinion and stand on it so he tries to defend his legacy and then he becomes the topic of conversation

It's not like in the Carolinas where we blame his shoulder, his coaches, his roster etc. The average NFL fan thinks Cam is still physically capable and just too eccentric, selfish, or inaccurate to be in the league anymore. I don't think he realizes that so he keeps putting himself out there and making it worse.

The fact we had Cam and couldn't hit back to back winning seasons is a sad, sad organizational failure

I dream of the day my great great great grandchild watches the Carolina Panthers finally pull off back to back winning seasons as the team is lead by AIBot#7 in the year 2068

Cam can feel disrespected by the organization but he's shitting on a bunch of incredible players with these comments. It just feels like it's for attention...

And even if they were ass, you still never say that. That team delivered his ass his 2015 MVP.

To take what he said and purposely distort and obfuscate it in to a ‘here’s what he meant to say’ is 100% dishonest and gas lighting down to the core.  He meant exactly what he said. If his media popularity is worth more to him than the love and respect of his teammates who played their guts out for him Damn bro, no body wants to know that side of you truly does exist.

The 2011 roster wasn’t exactly playoff material

https://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/carolina-panthers/roster/2011

I saw several interviews with Newton over the past couple of weeks in which he said he ‘wasn’t a good teammate in  year 1  and 2 and he had to learn to be’

Of course, those don’t make headlines nor did  his  roundtable last week with Jonathan, Greg and coach Rivera and his time with Luke

I love Steve Smith but he and Newton go way back…and the reason he got traded to the ravens had a lot to do with his attitude with Newton that Gettleman didn’t care for

Mvp isnt a team award.

So Cam Newton goes to Auburn, plays with a bunch of guys that will never sniff the NFL and are literally playing the last season for the rest of their lives, and it’s an era of college football where players don’t get paid and are playing for nothing more than the dream of winning a national championship, in the BCS era where losing one game possibly ends that dream and then comes to the NFL and realizes several players are indifferent to winning or losing and our just playing to get a check and feed their families and any game that they don’t suffer a career ending injury is a win in their eyes and Cam is dumbfounded to understand that

Saying theres a locker room full of losers doesnt mean each person in the locker room is a loser. Even a casual fan would know Steve Smith played every down like it was his last whether he was up 4 touchdowns or down 4 touchdowns. Cam knows that too.

I think alot of people forget what a shitshow that 2010 season was. The lockout was coming next year and JR basically gutted the team over salary concerns. John Fox had ran his course as the coach but JR was too cheap to fire him so he basically let him coach a lame duck year. Fox had no interest in winning and had no interest in building for a future he wouldnt be a part of and you go 2-14 as a result. I hardly doubt Cam showed up to the facility 4 months later surrounded by a unit hungry to win a Super Bowl that year

I still dont see the big deal. What he said could apply to any team that drafted first. Jets, Browns, Bears, Jaguars, Cardinals, whoever. He is speaking in general terms, not personal.

True.  But he didn’t just speak in general terms.  Which would have been fine.  He went into his actual team, which is why even folks not named 89 have taken issue with it.

He commented directly on their preparation etc too. And he wasn't general, he was talking about HIS teammates. If you say, "ya know when you're drafted early it isn't usually to a good team...etc etc". Ok. But the team he was drafted into was very strong on offense and has many of the Panthers all time greats.

As to nobody commenting on him saying he wasn't a great teammate or his personal podcast - 1) Cam has a general reputation around the NFL many of us felt was undeserved for being selfish. And yethe is now saying this poo which feeds into that. 2) He's making headlines cause it's controversial. Self reflection isn't controversial so no it won't get headlines.

Honestly it's disappointing.
