From OTC:

Samuel’s contract is more or less a players dream and a team’s nightmare. The 49ers made the decision to use large bonuses in every year of the contract for much needed cap relief each season. The 49ers have prorated about 92.5% of the first three years of Samuel’s contract extension that was signed in 2022. This leaves the 49ers with $31.55 million in prorated charges to deal with in 2025 if Samuel is cut or traded, which is #3.7M more in cap space than the 49ers have spent on Samuel as an active player over the last three years. If the 49ers were to trade Samuel they would take all $31.55 million in cap charges in 2025 and would require some minor tweaking of his contract to avoid that number jumping by about another $3 million.

The 49ers do not have to rush on a trade since they created a salary cap cushion via a teamwide commitment to contract restructures made in 2024. While the option for Samuel is technically due on the 10th day of the league year the 49ers could elect to not pick up the option and allow Samuel’s salary for the year to rise from $1.17 million to $16.6 million, increasing his cap charge from $15.869 million to about $28.2 million. While the jump is big, the 49ers should be prepared to take that increase if they are willing to take $31M in dead money via trade. None of Samuel’s salary is guaranteed and this would allow them to hold onto Samuel until the draft to try to move him in a trade.

Deebo is overrated in my opinion.  Plays in a very good system and seems more of a gadget player.  Sure someone will overpay him.

Seems you haven’t watched San Fransisco much. He and CMC are their offense. Purdy is good, but they are the game breakers that can take a 2 yard screen 75 yards to score anytime.

pairing Deebo with Theilen and, id hope, a young speed guy, would be an awesome combination.

I have watched them a good bit, second favorite team after the panthers.  He had a really good 2021, but since the big contract signing he has seemed to slow down maybe its just been injuries but this past season he really looked bad and slow.  He has had one year over 1k yards but they do spread the ball around alot.  He has never really panned out as a runner either his best year he had 365yards rushing.  I could be wrong but I just dont see him worth the money they are paying him or what he will want.  I dont think the 49ers will miss him when he is gone I believe other players(ricky pearsall) will step right into his spot. This season when everyone else was hurt on the 49ers they still didnt turn to him b/c he just wasnt playing well and he played in 15 games this season.

He's 29 years old with a bad contract, and yes, while he has game breaking ability, he really doesn't have a defined position anymore, he's not really all that great at just lining up at WR and running routes, he's more gadget than anything.

If you trade for a player like him, you need to build your offense around moving him around and getting him the ball with unique plays that don't work with anyone else.

If he was 25 without injury issues, then it's a totally different conversation, but re-building your offense around an overpriced, oft injured 29 year old without a true position is exactly how you compound the issues a team like ours has.

He's another player where I'd much rather WAY overpay to go after someone like Higgins, and I'm already staunchly against doing that as well.

Wouldn't be thrilled with this.

The WR market is pretty meh and the draft is as well.  If we somehow land a weapon via trade, it needs to be a game changer.  We have young talent that I don't want stunted by older fillers.  This should happen only if a prime candidate who can truly make an impact is there, but if we're just grabbing a starter for a year or two, it doesn't serve us well for the build around Bryce and co.

Trade candidates in that respect would be a guy like Pittman or Wilson.

Deebo is honestly still living off of the hype of his one great season. Outside of that season four years ago he's been more good than great. He's going into the last year of his contract and I'd surmise he and the Niners have likely had some discussions about a possible extension and are probably miles apart on the numbers. He probably wants to be paid like 2021 Deebo and the Niners want to pay for 2024 Deebo. Basically good vs. great.

    • I think if Carter and Graham is gone it makes too much sense not to trade down. Panthers need so many positions filled that reaching at 8 is the one thing they cannot do.
    • My dream scenario is trading back and still getting Mike Green.
    • If you are located within the Panthers local viewing area, then you're going to need a solution that covers local TV stations to watch the team.  Sunday Ticket will be blacked out for local markets, so that won't do you any good I've used the Paramount+ app to watch Panthers on CBS, the Peacock app to watch SNF, and have tried to use the FOX app to watch games on FOX.  Note that Peacock is doing a $30 for the year deal right now (not avail for current subscribers, use code WINTERSAVINGS). ABC/ESPN are a bit funkier, so deal with them later From a cost-effective perspective, Peacock for $30/year is dirt cheap. I don't think you'd want to pay for a year of Paramount+ unless there's other value there -- go month-to-month.
