Not-so-popular movies you've seen recently that you surprisingly liked...

Samuel L. Jackson

Sleep Dealer.

Spanish but subtitled. Has a good commentary on sealing our border and the possible outcome. Truly good Sci Fi, won Sundance and surprisingly good. Aside from a couple of cheesy destruction scenes, it was very well done.

I highly recommend it...

Mr. Brooks is pretty popular, it has a 7.5 on IMDB. Book of Eli I loved (it just leaked onto the net too btw). I love the films that come out of no where.

Recently, I watched The Road, and it was amazing. The best movies, usually, seem to be the low budget low money making films that focus on good acting.

"The Gymnast"

The stunning Dreya Weber stars as a former top gymnast who discovers love and a new life path when she teams up with a dancer (played by former L.A. Lakers cheerleader Addie Yungmee) for an ambitious Las Vegas aerial act show.

Plenty of nudity and girl on girl action! The ending made the movie!

IFC has a lot of obscure movies. 13 Tzameti was on there, it's pretty good. A Russian movie about 13 guys that are forced to/get paid to play a game of Russian Roulette-they each get one bullet, spin the chamber, and stand in a circle pointing at the back of the head in front of them.

Thank you! I was trying to remember the name of that flick....

Are we thinking of the same film here? Because The Ring was a pretty popular movie -- unless you're talking about the Japanese version Ring, which is Japan's highest grossing horror film.

Yeah...and the American version.

Were both Grudge and Ring japanese originals?

The Good Shepherd

Totally stupid plot, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the characters.

I thought Damon and Jolie were excellent, and I really don't like either one very much normally.

I'm a Cyborg and That's OK

Korean bizarro world film about patients in a nuthouse. Think of it as One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Korean style. Very weird and entertaining.

I have been watching IFC and ENC while working out in the AM these days, instead of ESPNnews.

Heaven help me, I'm getting old.

I saw that one very late night while up with the baby and I agree with your view. It was a nice surprise.

I just remembered a movie called The Objective. I liked it not so much for the story as it is supposed to be true about the events but not the op.

What I liked was that it pretty much portrayed a Spook led Op into a rural place in Afghanistan. I had spent a few occaisions there and the scenery pretty much nailed what it was like. Also the make up of the Spec Ops team, their interpersonal relationships, they way they fight and their situational awareness (knowing when they should call it a wash) reminded me of a few Spook led Ops I had been on.

One of my favorite lines gave me a chill. It's when the Special Forces Commander tells the Spook. "This might be your op, but these are my boys." I have personaaly heard my commanders give the same warning in the past...
