NFL Matchup show may be no more... Noooo...

Recommended Posts

Damn it... this is the best football show on TV.

We're sorry to pass along the news, via SI's Peter King, that the NFL has decided it won't seek sponsors for the NFL Matchup show, ending a 26-year partnership with the program.

The show isn't quite dead yet, though. ESPN could decide to own and operate the show itself to keep it on the air. We implore them to do so.

This news is sobering, but perhaps enough fan support can keep the show alive.

So breaking down actual gamefilm and providing exceptional knowledge to fans who other-wise wouldn't know the difference between cover 2 and cover 3 and lineman gap control gets cancelled, while Skip Bayless talking about if the Yankees losing was the "worst loss of an AL East team on the road against a divison rival in the month of may after a 4 game winning streak on a weekday" is still on for 4 hours? I never heard of this show before today. Probably because it airs at 3:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. How are you people awake [and in the case of the 3:00 a.m. show, read as "sober"] during those hours?

You ever hear of something called a DVR?

Yes, but I just got it a month ago. Not much help for the past season unless the device can travel through time.

And being able to record it doesn't help me if I don't know about it. All I'm saying is they do a pretty shitty job promoting it, and I wouldn't be surprised if no sponsors go after a show with that time slot.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that's never heard of this show...

I think the show is way to technical for the average football fan which is what makes up the vast majority of NFL fans. Only a very small portion of fans strive to be couch Ron Jaworskis. There is a reason the show wasn't in a more featured time slot, the audience for such a show is very small.
