I'm pretty happy with our draft, and excited about Clausen's potential. But I was also once pretty stoked about the idea of Shelton and Foster in the same backfield. So with that in mind, here's a list of all the first and second round quarterbacks in the past 20 years.

I see about 18 QB's on there I would deem "OK." I see about 6-8 that are pretty damn good.

Is it just me or has there been more success with 1st round QB's lately (according to this)?

The takeaway from the list of QB's is that it IS a total crap shoot.

Now you udnerstand why Fox and Co never wanted to take a QB with a 1st rd pick. Lock up tons of money with a very high bust rate.

Risk vs. Reward

How many 1st rounders would you have wasted just to get the chance to grab Manning 1, Rivers, Brees...etc.

You may set your team back a few years if you don't get a good one, but what if you do? You have the hardest position on the field locked up for the next 12-15 years.

IMO the risk of never having an elite QB, is not worth the risk of possibly drafting a bust at the position.

Especially if you are a defensive guru like Fox is heralded to be, you should be able to field a team that is good enough on D to make up for a washout first rounder at the QB position.
