looks like the Rangers are in big - reported that Moose said he would sign long term with them - as I said before Tulsky didn't vet this before hand and got suckered in to trading Necas and Drury for a player that NEVER wanted to come here.

Canes fumbled hard on this one.

Canes had a little term with Necas and traded him for a rental now we’re right back in the Guentzel situation. The thing with Guentzel is he made us better, Rantanen makes this team worse.

Unload him for the best offer and move on.

I know the Canes request from the Leafs is Knies plus players and high picks . So any trade from other teams is going to have to clear that bar for the Canes to move on from Mikko.

Worse because they are totally set on keeping him while driving up the trade cost for him. It will take a huge deal for Tulsky to move Mikko. Like get more in return then he sent to get Mikko in the first place. 30g / 60pt potential players that are young plus a first type of return.

We need to move him.  The odds that we figure it out and win the cup this year with Mikko aren’t great.  The team chemistry is out of whack.

Take the best deal on the table and hopefully it produces a more cohesive team than what we have now.  And honestly, getting some assets for next year which we won’t have with Mikko (besides cap space)

Word is he’s told the Canes he would agree to sign and trade to the right teams. So looks like he flat out told Carolina he wasn’t resigning at all, which is kind of different from what he told them pre trade but I digress.

Also I have to say Mikko is a loser.  I’m not a GM, so I don’t know the standard procedure when vetting a trade target.  But it’s stupid how he wanted to play hardball with Colorado, but isn’t willing to deal with the consequences of his actions.

Colorado had a line to draw on his salary because guys like Nathan mackinnon are the real force behind the Avs success.  Mikko isn’t the same player without Nathan.  Nathan is fine without Mikko.

He should have told the avalanche that before they dealt him to Carolina.  What a little biatch.

The return will depend on how many teams there are that Rantanen would extend with. If it’s a three team race then the return will be underwhelming. If he’s got a list of 10 plus teams then we can create a bidding war.

As far as a pure rental I don’t see him getting much more than Guentzel got last year. Not because Rantanen isn’t better but because of his recent play. Teams are certainly going to try and take advantage of that.

The problem is Rantanen doesn’t seem too inclined to sign a deal right now. If he would sign with someone like Toronto then I’d say ship him off for Knjes and a first.

But at this point I’m preparing to be underwhelmed.

Right now there’s at least 6 teams with offers on the table to the Canes. Is one of those teams someone he told them he would sign with… dunno if anyone but Tulsky knows.
