Time is here for Martin

I really don't think we will see much of a drop without Harris. Godfrey will be moved to SS, Martin should excel at FS. Expect to see us moving Godfrey up towards to line for blitzing/run support a lot this season. Martin will be a ball hawk.

Anyone know where Pugh is projected?

This could be a issue for us, because Godfrey has exhibited piss poor tackling techniques since he has been here. I really hope if they plan on moving him to SS he puts in some work on his tackling skills. I like that he sticks his head in there, but just make sure you are going to do the job if that's the case.

I'm glad to see Martin stepping up into a leadership role! Gamble needs a little help leading the secondary. We have our leader at LB with Beason, but who will be our leader on the DL though?

I think Brayton will step up and be the leader this year for the DL, even if he isn't the full time starter. He's the vet of the group, in about a year or 2 I think brown will eventually be the leader on the DL and possible captain of the D (along with beason obviously, and if we lose TD)

I have high hopes for Martin. Fox doesn't usually give rookies a lot of playing time but because of injuries we were able to see what he is capable of and he hasn't disapointed at all. If Godfrey didn't improve his play after his injury then I could see Martin being the starter without question this year. With Harris gone Martin will fight for a starting job for either SS or FS. I personally think that Martin is a FS and Godfrey would be a better SS than FS. Im also glad to hear Martin is learning to become a leader since we did Harris who had a big role in his leadership. I wonder what our coaching staff thinks about our safties considering we signed Francisco and drafted Pugh and signed O'Hanlon who played for Nebraska who had a great Pass defense and had six interceptions. Martin and Godfrey have no choice but to step it up this year or one of those guys willl take their job. I'm happy to see Martin stepping it up when needed. Can't say the same for Godfrey.

Hopefully Martin really shines this year. He surely excited folks in the short time he played to believe he could come in and start at free safety. In a Meeks scheme the safeties are very important. It will take Godfrey and Martin at their best to cover this year until the pressure eventually gets there.

I love that kid and he can shine next year...

also:

The sentiment that we were going to sh*t when McCree left seems eerily similar to the current situation with Harris. Yeah they could hit and force fumbles, but they were getting old and slow.

I believe Martin be end up being our leader in the secondary. The kid is smart and is a play maker.

I know I am one of the few, but I believe our secondary will be even better this year.

The secondary will only be effective to the extent that we get pressure on the quarterback and we don't have to commit a safety to the run all the time. Both of those areas are suspect to the point that the secondary could easily be affected. The strength of the line will go a long way to determining how our pass defense looks no matter who the back 7 are and how well they play. I would be hard pressed to say the pass defense will be better until I see how the D line looks this year.
