Madden

Recommended Posts

I think you may have misunderstood what I meant. Gamestop will sell you a brand new copy of Madden (which half the time isn't in the wrapper cuz it's a display) for $59.99. They keep hardly any of that initial sale $$$. They then buy your copy back when you get bored of it for $20 STORE CREDIT. Not even that much if you want cash. They then sell your copy used for $54.99, they mark it down a mere $5. They then but it back again for another $20 credit and sell it again for $54.99. They repeat this process a bunch of times and make WAY more on each copy of Madden then the people that made it. IMO that's not cool. But whatever, god bless capitalism right?

Ah. Sounds like good business to me. If you don't like (on either the selling or buying end) thats why there is a great website called ebay where you can buy and sell all sorts of used things. LOL.

The market determines who wins. GameStop is obviously doing something right as they are flourishing. I have no problem with them making money. I just buy brand new games anyway.

My wife and I stopped shopping at GS because of their and EB's shady practices. I just go to mom & pops stores, they give better deals and it's better for the industry.

EB is basically GameStop. And it's no different for the industry at all. The game developers make the same money off the game whether GameStop sells it or some local store. Used game sales on the other hand (used game sales at ANY store) are a huge money loss to the industry which is why you see companies doing things like putting one-time online codes in the boxes, etc.

yea they did a bang-up job of buying out all the competition and then raising prices.

What's wrong with that?

Jesus, why are people against other people (or businesses) being successful? There are strategies to beat them if you truly think they are hurting the market, you just have to make it happen. The world doesn't play fair and it benefits those who are aggressive.

what's wrong with it? alot of things. What's illegal about it? absolutely nothing. Like i said, i hardly even go into brick and mortar game stores anymore. I'm not sure how else I'm supposed to "make it happen." Doesn't matter really I hardly ever buy games anymore.

You've already made it happen. If you don't like their practices, don't buy from them. But, don't be pissed off when they are still doing well.

There is nothing immoral or illegal about their practices. They won't be the biggest store forever, so don't worry.

Just to note, I buy my games online from Walmart, Amazon, NewEgg, and GameStop.

Yeah, I knew GS and EB are the same co, that's why I mentioned both. I should've said USED games, IF I buy a game new I either get it from TRU or Best Butt since they actually give real deals unlike the other two.

Now, here's the thing about used games, as a developer I hate it when people in the industry cry about used games. They don't look at the silver lining of the used game niche. Used games actually make fans by offering a game that is possibly a blockbuster and will have a sequel to a person who might not otherwise have tried that game due to monetary issues. If the game is worth a damn, then the person will most assuredly by the next installment of the game new when it is released. I have heard the arguments on both sides and there are people who fit in both categories but I think the bottom line is that people continue to buy games; new or used. Once they stop buying; period, then there's a problem.

Oh, I have no problem with used games, from the viewpoint of a consumer or otherwise. I never buy used games, but I know that some people prefer to do so. I don't think the developers nor publishers should complain about it, either. Although, I will add that it seems it is mostly the publishers that are pushing for methods to reduce used game sales.
