I wouldn't wait too long to sign Moore to a longer contract, like waiting until the end of the season, unless he's not playing all that good. If he picks up where he left off last season the longer they wait the more expensive he'll get.

If Moore picks up where he left off then the Panthers should sign him for a longer period of time and keep both Moore and Clausen, at least for the next couple of years. With Clausen being in the middle of the 2nd round draft choice, they could afford to keep them both. No need to rush into something foolish by trading away a good QB. If Moore was to break his leg again they'd be happy they have Clausen sitting behind him. If they traded Moore and he went on to do really good while Clausen struggled, I don't even want to think about it.

It'll depend completely on how he plays. If he plays about like Jake in his prime I say franchise him and trade him for a 1st/2nd round pick and give the job to Clausen. I really believe Clausen will be at least as good as Moore and if we can get a high draft pick for Moore then we need to take that for sure.

Now, if Moore plays BETTER than Jake in his prime then I believe we have to keep him and Clausen and see how things play out. Offer him a 3-year deal and continue to groom Clausen. If Moore shows that he's not a fluke and continues playing well then we can trade Clausen after 2-3 years, if he falters after his new deal then we can give Clausen his shot.

Rayz, I was going to say that, but you beat me to it.

P-55, I think Moore is as good as gone, unless he's Clarke Kent and pulls out his cape and---for lack of a better term---leotards on game days.:D From what I have seen of the two, Clausen is just better. Yes, I know that Clausen was playing in college, and Moore was starting on Sundays last year, but it's not like Moore has any appreciable amount of experience as an NFL starter, so, for me, I almost have to look back to his college days because it is the next logical thing to do. Moore is really going to have to win some games with his arm---his talent---if he is going to be the incumbent starter next season (assuming he is the starter this season).

Now, assuming Moore is the starter this season, I am going to look into my crystal ball. What I see after this season is a situation somewhat similar to the Chargers' a few years back, the big difference being that Moore is probably no Brees, but Clausen will probably be in the league of Rivers.

[Getting off on a tangent, even to this day, in my mind it is arguable as to whether Brees is soooo much better than Rivers as a QB (like many would assume without really a second thought), but I still question this assumption. In any event Rivers is probably a top 5 QB in the league.]

After a season of Moore (and hopefully, not less---pun and double entendre intended), the FO and many fans will know that JC is our true savior, and it is he who will lead the Panthers to glory.

When Clausen fell to us in the second, was the second that Moore's future in Carolina was not in Carolina.

At the moment Clausen was falling upon us, like manna from heaven, Moore was falling from grace.

Not every situation will devlop exactly like the Rivers/Brees situation. Brees wasn't as good with the Chargers as he has been with the Saints (Brees didn't become the "elite QB" he is now until the past 2 years). Rivers is the much better Charger QB if that makes any sense.

I really don't see why so many fans are just writing Matt off. Was I the only one watching the final 3 games of the season? I mean sure I like what Clausen brings to the table and all but I still would put me money on the guy that was producing at a probowl level against playoff hungry NFL teams. He is far from perfect but he is definetly earned more respect then he gets by this FO and Fanbase.

Whats funny is I was watching some Highlights of Clausen this morning and the entire time I was thinking, Man I wish we had gotten Tate. At this point personally, with Fox in the situation he is in, I would probably have gone Tate. We still could have gotten LeFevour (big time Sleeper in this years draft) in the 6th or Jarrett Brown as a UDFA. I just don't see Clausen being any use for 2 or 3 years.

That is the thing. If we were doing what was best for this year we would have picked Tate over Clausen. But the FO and Fox are thinking long term over immediate needs. And when was the last time that a guy who was projected in some polls in the top 10 falls all the way to the middle of the second round. It really was a no-brainer especially when we tried to move up to get him at the beginning of the second. If he turns out to our franchise guy he will be a steal.

Really this is the best position we have ever been in regarding quarterbacks in our short history. For guys on the hot seat to win now. you have to hand it to the FO for thinking long term whether it works out or not.

For the record I don't fault them for taking Clausen (his value was unimaginable at the start of the draft) but to be honest I don't see how this can work out for us. Think about it. If Moore comes in and gets us to the playoffs he most likely will get a extension and Fox as well. If he comes in and struggles most likely Fox is out of a job and most new HC will look to bring in there own QB.

If he does well Clausen will most likely get traded by the start of his 3rd year and unless he gets some starting exp he wont probably have too much value left. Like I said would have went with Tate personally but I still don't mind the pick at all. It is what it is I guess we will have to wait until after this year to see if how it plays out.

If Moore performs well this year, sign him to a couple year deal and keep Clausen. Eventually we can trade one of them down the road. If Moore has a good season and Clausen looks to be ready to go, it's also very likely that Moore might want to go to a different team so he doesn't have to look over his shoulder. In that case, tag & trade.
