Oh Dear God...

I think cheerleading, poms, dance and step are oversexualized activities that encourage young girls to adhere to antiquated gender roles (wear make up, marry prince or trust-fund baby, pop out 8-12 kids). I think I knew one girl in high school from any of those aforementioned pseudo-sports who had any career aspirations at all, and she was an African Immigrant; super-intelligent, went on to be pre-med. The rest (of those who went to college) majored in kinesiology, communications, art, dance, husband shopping, etc. You get the picture.

At Maryland, what made me sick was they had little girls like 8-10 (who I called Hooters Girls in Training) dressed as cheerleaders, and doing the same ass-shaking moves the college girls were doing. And the mothers are just goo-gaaing away at how cute they are, and I'm just thinking, "Oh! you're pushing your daughter into being a vapid slut. Good job!"

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I'd be devastated if my daughter's highest aspiration in life was to get married and have babies.

Problem: Young girls aged 7 to 10 are made/asked to wear skimpy clothing and perform a dance routine which is sexually suggestive in front of a live audience.

Solution: Whatever sicko-fug choreographed this needs to be buried alive. The parents need to be sterilized. The children should be relocated to good foster homes.

I've got a 16-year-old daughter. She's very artistically talented and is planning on attending an art institute when she graduates high school. She's expressed disgust at the idea of having kids or even getting married. I'm pleased to hear this from her.

If she came home tomorrow, and said to me, "Dad, I think I want to get married and have kids when I'm an adult"... I'd be just as Ok with that as any other respectable choice she could make for her life.

Why? Because there is nothing wrong with wanting to settle down and start a family.

There are only a few interests/professions I would not be happy with her having... they are:

Prostitute

Pornographic Actress

Lawyer

Lobbyist

to be fair they really tore it up. It's really only the outfit they have on that I would object too. The dance moves are pretty sensual for however old they are but that's tolerable since they are pretty talented. But yeah I don't see how parents could approve of that. Kids need to enjoy being kids for a while.

See, I thought just the opposite :sosp:

The outfits weren't that bad - as dance outfits go - but some of the moves were way too adult for that age group.

I'll grant the entire thing wasn't nasty, but there was enough wrong there to seriously question the choreographer (and the parents).

Yeah touching their toes and the hip gyrations are over the line. It looks like they're at some sort of competition so maybe the competitive atmosphere caused them to push the envelope too far.
