Kyle Orton according to Denver press...

Kyle Orton never got much love in Chicago despite a winning record as a starter, and now Denver's most prominent sports columnists are calling for him to be sent packing.

The reasons include both Orton's performance in replacing Jay Cutler last season and the Broncos' obvious lack of commitment to him, made clear by the drafting of The Golden Calf of Bristol and the acquisition of Brady Quinn.

As Denver Post columnist Mark Kiszla wrote Sunday, "Kyle Orton would have rocks for brains to start another game as quarterback of the Broncos. He would be playing the fool for Denver coach Josh McDaniels. If Orton owns a penny's worth of common sense, he has already quietly, politely and firmly asked for a trade to grant his freedom."

Fellow Post columnist Woody Paige takes a harsher stance, saying Orton would be "a clown in the The Golden Calf of Bristol circus" and lacks the skills to be a top NFL quarterback.

"He's not a true leader," Paige writes. "The Broncos had Champ Bailey, D.J. Williams and Brian Dawkins in leadership roles on defense, but nobody on offense. The leadership has to come from the QB, and Orton's soft attitude didn't motivate his teammates."

Paige says Orton's "quirky offseason work ethic has been questioned in Chicago and Denver" and is "an average quarterback who couldn't start for 21 other teams in the league."

Bottom line? For Kizla, it's that, "So long as Orton is the quarterback, Denver has no future." Paige concurs, saying, "For the good of all, Orton has to be passed along."

And Rex Grossman thought he had in rough in Chicago?

Whether the talking heads like it or not Orton is the best guy they have. Brady would be infinitely worse and The Golden Calf of Bristol is no where ready to start. Orton had very respectable stats his 62% completion rate his 21-12 TD to INT ratio and his average yards per pass of 7, ranks him in the top half of the league. What is laugable is that is was much better than Cutler with whom they still seem to be in love.

What's laughable is their offense under Cutler was better despite being backed by the worst defense in the league and netting shittier field position, Jays numbers were also better in all above stats you mentioned besides having more picks but then again he was forced to throw the ball 616 times...just sayin.

Orton would thrive in an offense with a strong running game, similar to ours. He's a good QB.

I agree, give the kid a killer run game, stick to passes under 20 yards and he's a winner.. Steve Smith might be a littler upset by his presence though.
