Why is Fox out the door?

Even if Fox gets a new contract, how much longer b4 the 'chin' gets impatient and coaches another team?

I don't think it'll be this one.

Gantt and others have said that if we get a new coach, it'll be a young, up and coming guy, and more than likely a defensive coach.

Richardson got burned going the retread route with George Seifert. He's apparently not so hot on going that way again.

And to be honest, I agree.

The Panthers have had a much better last 8 years compared to the Chargers, plus the chargers benefit from being in a division with bottom feeder teams like the Raiders, Bronco's, and Kansas City, and, the chargers still haven't managed to put together a good play off run. The Panthers have been much more consistant and better during Fox's tenure than the Chargers for sure.

If Fox was really upset about being in the last year of his contract, and/or didn't want to be here...he would already be gone. Fox isn't the type of guy to stay in a situation he doesn't want to be in.

The chin can go anywhere. Anywhere but for the panthers.

I'm sure the 'chin' will do much better than Siefert has here!siefert was given a good team(49ers),I'm pretty sure the Steelers were built up by Cowher!A young coach that knows what he's doing wouldn't hurt my feelings thou!If JR is taking the internal route,I would much rather have Meeks as head coach instead of Davidson!

I said week ago that I really don't think Fox is going anywhere unless we totally tank. I feel that people are minimizing the bond and respect that J-Rich has for Fox (mainly because of Fox's past success). I am thinking that if we win anything more than 5 games (which is a good possibility), Fox will be extended. In that same thread I mentioned that he may even get an extension before season's end if things go particularly well for the team. It's all guess work on anyone's part though.

I don't think we'll bring in a big name coach like Cowher... my guess is that we'll give Jeff Davidson the job when Fox goes.

I don't either. People bring up money and that Fox is going to want to get paid, well, when Cowher comes back he will be the highest paid coach in the league. So...

I keep hearing about the bond between Fox and Richardson or that Fox and Hurney are inseperable. That Fox wants to stay here, etc. Seems to me that if Richardson wanted him here he would have extended him. He gave an extension to Hurney. How would you feel if you worked for a company for 9 years and saw one of your co workers get a new contract and you didn't? Wouldn't you be pretty upset that they valued them more than you. Wouldn't the whole bond go out the window? Then when they offer you another contract it wasn't for more money per year or only for 2 or 3 years (reportedly Richardson said we wasn''t going to do anymore long term deals), would you be excited to stick around?

I figure they will either part ways amiably or like happened with Trgovac, Richardson will offer a contract late and Fox will turn it down to go elsewhere. He will take his staff with him since they aren't under contract either and we will start over again.

I don't know if richardson is as desperate to win immediately as you may think. Otherwise he does what chicago is doing and is all in this year. Instead he is thinking 2 or 3 years down the road and is willing to be mediocre this year for 2012.

Plus look at who else he could get. Cowher has 1 superbowl in 15 years. He hasn't even coached in years. Who is to say he gets back there for a number of years. it will take him at least 2 years to transform the current 4-3 into a 3-4 that he would like. How about Gruden. He hasn't been there since 2002. All of the assistants we could get haven't won one at all. Who out there is guaranteed to win one in the next 4 or 5 years? I am fine if they get rid of Fox but to assume we are heading back to the superbowl anytime soon is optimistic at best. We might be a year or 2 away from even making the playoffs at this point. I know all the sunshine boys here get mad when I interject reality into the situation instead saying I am being negative, but the truth is we may be better in the future and this whole youth movement may pay dividends down the road especially if there is a lockout. But right now we are surely not as good as we were at the end of last year under Moore.

I'm not sure any coach in the N F L

assistants become head coaches and take teams to playoffs and Super Bowl

Sean Payton in New Orleans

Ryan in N Y will be there soon

Harabaugh {sp} is playoff worthy

Richardson has spent his life building his worth to get the oppurtunity to own an N F L team.

Surely he would like to see the fruits of his efforts in his life time .

JR the business man has elimanated all asst.coaches , a lot of upper management even his own son's .

J R want's to see a Super Bowl win in his lifetime .

Of course he wants to win a Super Bowl in his lifetime, every owner does but the reality is many don't. The question isn't whether he wants to win a championship but are we on the right path right now. And my answer is that you can't win long-term with a short term strategy. And don't mistake it, his current strategy may sound long-term with the whole youth movement but it is very much short-term with only the next 12 months really taking center stage. Otherwise he locks up core players like other teams have despite the 30% rule and he either gives his current coach an extension or brings in the guy for the future now instead of waiting for 2011 or 2012.

Yeah I know all about saving money and waiting to lock folks up, not wasting 6 million on a coach contract now or paying folks for 2011 if there is a lockout, etc. But again that is all short term thinking. And that won't get us to a Superbowl. Plain and simple.

This is laughable. Is the NFC South better as a whole today? Yes, but how soon we forget that the Saints and Falcons were laughing stocks of the NFL not so long ago, and Denver and the Raiders were perenial SB contenders.

IF Fox didn't want to be here, he'd be gone. He doesn't need to finish out his contract. He isn't hurting for money. If people would look into fox's history (before the giants even) they would also know he'd have no bones about leaving. He could sit out this year, and be one of the first hired in the next head coaches turn over.

The media has made a big deal out of his contract situation. Fox hasn't.

Fox wouldn't stay to coach through this season unless he wanted to be here.

I think Fox has a great deal of respect for this organization and is very comfortable here, which made it an easy decision for him to stay even with an expiring contract.
