Jordan is considering Name change for bobcats

?

Who could I possibly be threatening with that?

No. Its a statement. I would probably drop them like I did the Hornets the last 3 years they were here.

A name like Flight would be even more embarrassing than the Hornets.

Its become painfully obvious that the name change crowd really doesn't give a damn about the team or the fans.

As are The Supersonics...

But seriously, am I the only one who thinks New Orleans should change there name so we can go back to being the Charlotte Hornets?

not going to happen, unless they can get Jazz from Utah. Even then, it starts something the NBA Marketing people don't won't.

Think the Lakers would give up their name because Minnesota should have it and it fits them? the L.A. Lakers is a brand name that carries the NBA internationally, no way they lose it.

The Charlotte Air, I could live with it. better image than seeing Bob Johnsons face everytime Bobcats is mentioned.

How many letters did Jerry Richardson have to send out?

Hell, he won't even talk to the press.

Jerry Richardson hasn't called out people and bad mouthed the city. I don't think anyone expects him to be openly public. He does enough behind closed doors and has a very respectable and valued organization. The Bobcats are now on the rise and a change of ownership helped the cuase. The letters didn't mean the organization changed alot, but it showed he understands where the fans are coming from. Changing the name would be unfortunate now, (flight is kinda..idk WNBAish). But, ill support them no matter what, name change or not.

It was a marketing move. And apparently a pretty good one at that. He didn't even have to give anyone a prize or pay a dime.

Jerry Richardson got tremendous support from corporate Charlotte, to the point that it hurts the fanbase with BOA owning half the seats in the stadium and either sitting on the tickets or handing them out to employees that are transplants and other teams fans. This cushion given by local corporations also artificially inflates the price of tickets and drives the scalping market in Charlotte.

Bob Johnson...well he didn't do a little dance for everyone, so he's an uppity asshole douchebag.

Hornets and Bobcats are both gay. Flight sounds like a soccer team.

The Charlotte Knights. Rename Bobcat Arena Jamelot. Or just call the court Jamelot Court. Keep the current colors. Put Sir (first name) on every player's jersey, instead of the usual last name. Knight merchandise would sell like crazy nationwide.

If they change the name, it needs to be changed to something like the Charlotte Mooseknuckles.

I don't particularly care about what they do about the name as long as the team stays in NC, but I find it hilarious how people dislike the Bobcats because it's supposedly named after the [former] owner, yet post stuff like this:

. . .with Jordan's logo plastered all over the team logo.

C'mon, son!

Why don't you quit being selfish and think about the core fanbase that has supported this team since day 1 and has bought a ton of merchandise?

So willing to spend other people's money and turn their fan apparel into a dishrag.

I think if they change the name at this point, its gonna leave the same bad taste in my mouth that Shinn did with his mishandling of the Hornets.

They change the name, and I will probably no longer continue to support them.

That is pretty weak dude...

Anyway, this is the same ole theme in a different thread....There are a handful of people who are still sniffing BJ's jock. They cant appreciate what MJ, the new owner, is trying to do without reminding us of how "lucky" we were to have had BJ. I dont think that any of these people will ever change their narrow minds.

Point is, yes it would suck for anyone who bought Bobcats apparel, and I sympathize with that (but people have made worse fan apparel purchases, see below), but MJ has been trying to change the image of the bobcats, and have the entire CITY (or states, NC/SC) embrace an NBA franchise. This means if the majority of the public wants a name change, he should do it, period.

I think, for this franchise, the fail of the decade was naming the team the BOBcats ...after his ego, which took precedence over what the fans wanted. Doomed from the start.

Definitely the biggest fail for the Bobs has been Felton, May, passing on CP3, AMMO, and Diop. The cumulative losing effect caused by those transactions has caused more damage to the Bobs than their name.

The team name is fine. People just hate the name because in the first few years and BJ's last hoorah in town, he was a total douche. In between, he did do what it took to put a competitive team on the court.

As people forget who BJ is, the team name will no longer be an issue.

Its less weak than those that say they need a name change to support the team.

I don't think anyone's on Bob's jock, but the haters sure are swinging on his nuts, 2 months after he sold the team, dancing like fools as if he were banished from Charlotte for an eternity.

When he still owns part of the team, and you can bet he has a say so in the operations still as well.

They change the name to something like the flight, and I'm out. Its bullshit and embarrassing and I'd be ashamed to call myself a fan after that.

    • Bryce has had this story of being a great leader and a person who his teammates love.  Coaches and media all said some form of after talking with Bryce or spending time with him and it was obvious the type of person and leader he was.  I don't see it from his demeanor and public persona but he might be the type of guy who's much different in person.  With so many people saying some version of this I hope the fans get a glimpse of it some time.
    • Auburn literally could've had 20+ fouls in that half. Hate playing teams like this. They picked up 5-6 quick ones then like always happens the refs start to get whistle shy not wanting to call a foul every possession and they start getting away with murder. The way they call the games encourages this type of play. If they keep fouling just keep calling it.
    • I think last year actually set him back.  Our interior online was one of the worst I've seen.  Combine that with Frank archaic system and about 10 other things and then Canales comes in and implements his system regardless who the players were. A lot of coaches think their system can work with any player and don't do any or as much as they should with tailoring it to fit the player.  Canales admitted that pretty much in our first game but when he scaled it back and Bryce still looked horrible so he was benched.  That move right there is one of the big things that has sold me on Canales.  I judge him based on what he's done since he was renamed the starter.  I probably need to give him a little more rope because it probably seemed in his first game like it was just like last year.  Another new coach with his system and Bryce just went along.  Both the coach and the player are adapting to each other and I think that we are back, baby!!!!  It's just like Drew Brees and Sean Payton except without the mole and the butthole lips.
