The real Steve Smith writing blog comments on PFT?

It's not like a message board has inherent rules (it's a piece of software). However, most major boards have policies that protect them from civil litigation (such as this link rule).

Also, I don't think I'd characterize it as plagiarism. If he were to leave out the URL but say that it is from the comments section on PFT, then he is not claiming that it is his own work. Since when have comments on an article been considered protected? If I make some comments out in public about a topic and someone echoes my thoughts to other parties, are they stealing my "work"? I wouldn't consider comments on a blog post, article, etc., to be a piece of "work."

My point from the beginning was that PFT is horrible (mostly due to Florio) and that any links to the site only helps their cause. I understand there are rules in place to protect the board and the people who maintain it from legal problems. However, I based my point on the fact that they are side comments made by people who browse the site and are not a part of the article itself.

I'm sure Zod doesnt want to pay for an attorney to see if your theory is legal or not. I dont care one way or the other if you or anybody else adds a link, I'm just telling you what I've been told....

I agree PFT sucks ballz.

I don't care either, I was just trying to prove a point. :P

Zod and his mods may want to research the Fair Use Doctrine, which is much more applicable to the many quotes on this site than is plagiarism or copyright infringement. Also, I highly doubt that ANY court would view someone's comments to an Internet article worthy of being protected. That's just a lawyer's opinion though.

See, this is what I was trying to say, but I'm just not good enough to put it in a couple of sentences. Plus I don't know what the Fair Use Doctrine says. :P

As a mod that's my job and something I take seriously as I could affect Zod directly. However, now I don't want to see any links that validate or benefit Florio or his poo site.

Yeah, that was the intent of my posts; make sure nothing from that website or anything to do with Florio gets posted around here.
