Florio Won't Go on WFNZ with Steve Smith

Steve Smith punches so hard that he can actually hit you through a cell phone connection. I don't blame Florio.

If they were on the same line together then smitty would be the first person in history to punch somebody through the telephone.

Smith is a beast, and this just makes me like him even more.

Also, I never thought this would go this far. It's amazing how fabricated that story is.

Didn't Florio go to school for law? Sounds like lawyer bullsh*t to me. F*cking dumbass, this isn't court... We don't do rebuttals. You wrote that bullsh*t article with fake ass sources and now you're gonna hide when someone threatens to lift your skirt up. F*ck you Florio.

He's scared as sh*t of Smitty. If you're being truthful and honest, why would you be scared to discuss where the story came from and back it up 100% when questioned about it... It's not like you have press-source confidentiality to worry about b/c your source doesn't exist.

He wants to listen to what Smitty says and then quickly prepare a defense for himself based of what Smitty says - can't do that in a back and forth discussion. What a ***...

I hope they do allow him on the show after Smitty talks and then purposely let Smitty back on and talk to him about it and ambush his ass. F*cking pussy...

It's cool though, all he's doing is exposing himself as the fake journalist he is. I really hope he loses his deal with NBC for reporting fake ass stories. He's digging his own grave and I love it. Smitty and Channing Crowder should set up a meeting with him and beat the living piss out of him.

Pretty weak on Florio's part.

Said elsewhere that Florio can be counted on to get stories right when covering big market or high spotlight teams. He's rarely well-informed when it comes to the Panthers.

He really only has sources inside the Redskins organization

the farther he gets from the redskins and the nfc east, the more worthless he is.

Makes sense... that whole organization is surrounded by stupid, spineless cowards.

My latest tweet:

@ProFootballTalk If Florio stands behind his story then why won't he go on the air with Smith at the same time tomorrow morning?

I won't get a response, they're wrong and they know it - no point fighting back. I really do hope they take a call from Smitty while Mike "the 40 year old virgin" Florio is on the radio.

So now Steve Smith needs to give WFNZ an ultimatum: If they ever want him to come on the air with them again then they will need to get Florio to consent to being on the air with him at the same time or they need to cancel Florio's booking tomorrow morning and drop him for good.

He should make WFNZ choose between ever talking to him or Florio again, is there really a choice for a little AM sportstalk radio station in Charlotte, NC?

Given his stature among the players, he could blacklist WFNZ so none of them ever consent to an interview or any other WFNZ-related activity beyond the bare minimum required by the NFL.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
