Clausen's fall to second round and Panthers gets personal

You had your Jake Kool Aid crowd for years on here. Then you had your Matt Moore guys, and it seems some of them (many?) have already flipped over to Clausen, who hasn't thrown a pass in the NFL yet, and whose personality was even called out by Jon Gruden in those little film sessions he was doing for espn before the draft.

No one is anointing Clausen as anything other than a rookie that has the physical tools to be good. He may be good....and he may not.

As a Top 10 pick, I would have not made the gamble.

As a #48 pick, great value.

Somehow, nestled between Steve Smith and Jon Kasey, I believe Clausen will find the mentors he needs to make the transition. And a lot of old time Panthers still hang around the team adding even more to a good atmosphere.

And he's going to get to mature on the bench behind a guy who really, really had to earn his starting job with hard work and patience.

Make no mistake about it: Clausen is a cocky, entitled douche. Has been since high school. He got punched in the face BY A FELLOW NOTRE DAME FAN for chrissakes.

That being said, he was undoubtedly the best pick available at the 48 slot, and if he turns out to be a successful NFL quarterback for the Panthers, I will defend his fine young malery to the death.

I still believe Matt Moore is, and should be, the starter.

Best case scenario for Clausen is to be the next Aaron Rodgers, though it probably won't take as long and should involve a lot less drama.

The Panthers look to be in a pretty good position. If Moore lives up to last year's performance, they can take their time with Clausen and prepare him to be the QB of the future. If Moore plays badly or gets hurt, they have a guy with the tools to succeed should he be thrown into the fire early.

I'd prefer the former scenario, but I'll be okay either way as long as the Panthers are winning.

Fans bitched for years that our FO would never do something like this. It was always argued that the quarterback position was an afterthought to them, being just barely good enough was more than enough to land a guy the starting job, they were married to Jake Delhomme, etc. Well, they finally broke tradition, and people are rightfully excited.

Doubters doubt, and haters hate, but remember this fools: Santa Clausen will be bringing all the good little Panthers fans lots of gifts and toys on December 25th.

You better watch out. You better not cry. You better not pout, I'm telling you why: Santa Clasuen's coming to town. He's making a list. He's checking it twice. He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice. Santa Clausen's coming to town...

Hate to say it, but there is one unpleasant reality to be faced:

We may one day learn that Clausen is every bit the prick that some people portray him to be. Plenty of people defended Roethlisberger too, even recently.

I certainly hope it doesn't turn out that way, but to be realistic, I have to acknowledge that it's possible.

With that said, none of what I'm hearing thus far is strong evidence in that direction :nonod:

Is he confident? Sure. Maybe a little cocky? A lot of guys that play in the pros are. Not exactly a shock.

Again, the bottom line for me is this: As long as he isn't a prick to his teammates, to coaches (and staff) or to the fans, I'm not worried if he annoys opponents.

(heck, I hope all of our guys annoy their opponents, especially by beating them)

Interesting read, but that article makes it sound like the Panthers were literally the only team who liked him, which isn't true. There were a number of others who were interested, but didn't need a quarterback.

define need a QB. Very few teams have a Peyton Manning. Moore is actually as promising as it gets based on what he has done....a lot of teams with bigger needs at QB passed on him than what Carolina has. Carolina needed depth more so than to draft a potentialn starting QB based on how I look at the team.

Best case scenario:

1. Sit Clausen behind Moore

2. Moore plays well under RFA tender, gets a moderate length extension

3. Moore continues to play well while Clausen pushes him yearly in camp

4a. Rape some team ala Cutler for Matt when Jimmy is ready

4b. Farm Jimmy for a highish draft pick based on potential/small sample size and break roughly even re: draft position/value

Of course, here's what could actually happen as well:

1. Moore's performance is underwhelming, proves to be a one year (or quarter season) wonder similar to Derek Anderson

2. Reins handed over to immature, underdeveloped Clausen

3. Clausen sucks it up, alienates teammates with his attitude

4. Clausen's out of the league in a few years ala Ryan Leaf

5. Panthers enter extended rebuilding stage

We all know that had the Vikes, the Cowboys, the Steelers, or the Donks picked him up, they would be singing praises of each of their respective front offices for showing guts in picking up a questionable player that could be a huge sensation for those clubs. However, since the lowly Panthers snagged him at a bargain basement pricetag at the 48th pick, he's the next Leaf.

Remember guys, these are the same asshole reporters who, after flipping the finger at his fans and killing a sh*t ton of dogs illegally, continue to kiss Vick's STD-infected ass throughout the media. Oh, but Claussen may have character issues.... gimme a friggin break you hack-job retarded monkey sports writers.

The best thing for Clausen is to sit the bench behind Moore and learn how it is done in the NFL. He has never been anywhere where he wasn't the man which tends to make you think that it all about you. Starting right away would probably be to his detriment not his advantage. To be humbled into the second round followed by time on the bench with a clip board is exactly what he needs to grow some humility. Plus all of the rookie hazing makes you remember that you have't done anything at this level. I hope I am at training camp the day they tape him to the goalposts and pour gatorade all over him.

I would rather have a stuckup conceited asshole of a QB that a lazy worthless fat tub of crap like Russell. Best of all we get Clausen for a pretty big discount.
