Clausen's fall to second round and Panthers gets personal

I honestly don't think we would have drafted him if his character concerns were that bad.

If he was really an arrogant Jerk then he would have told smitty to f**k off when he wanted him to get him some cactus cooler. Theres been plenty of situations of rookies getting in fights and stuff over hazing. Instead he was humble enough to be Smitty's servant.

We'll see how he deals with getting taped to the goalpost.

I think that if a guy has the rep of being a jerk then he is going to do anything his teammates want to dispel the rumors and get in good with them.

i see people talking about him not being selected by 30 teams as an indictment that there is something wrong with him but i don't think thats the case at all. plenty of reasons for teams to not select a QB at all.

Buffalo Bills- too many needs and too busy being stupid with their draft picks

Miami Dolphins- just found their franchise QB and spent an early pick on another QB last year

New England Patriots- didn't need him....tom brady

New York Jets- didn't need him...mark sanchez

Baltimore Ravens- didn't need him...joe flacco

Cincinnati Bengals- didn't need him...carson palmer

Cleveland Browns- holmgren was busy filling other needs and didn't want to draft a QB early

Pittsburgh Steelers- didn't need him...as much of a douche rapist as big ben is, QB wasn't a top need.

Houston Texans- didn't need him...matt schaub

Indianapolis Colts- didn't need him...peyton

Jacksonville Jaguars- too busy reaching for tyson alualu. didn't draft a QB anyway.

Tennessee Titans- didn't need him...vince young showed back up

Denver Broncos- had a teboner

Kansas City Chiefs- too busy trying to prove that matt casell is a franchise QB

Oakland Raiders- got burned with their last drafted QB. had eyes on campbell.

San Diego Chargers- - didn't need him...rivers

Dallas Cowboys- didn't need him...romo

New York Giants- didn't need him...eli

Philadelphia Eagles- they believe that kolb is their future

Washington Redskins- didn't need him...mcnabby

Chicago Bears- didn't need him...cutler (whom they gave most of their draft away for)

Detroit Lions- didn't need him...stafford

Green Bay Packers- didn't need him...rodgers

Minnesota Vikings- lord farve has them by the balls

Atlanta Falcons- didn't need him...ryan

New Orleans Saints- didn't need him...brees

Tampa Bay Buccaneers- got their franchise QB last year (allegedly)

Arizona Cardinals- have enough of a QB "controversy" going on down there already

St. Louis Rams- just drafted bradford

San Francisco 49ers- too many other needs

Seattle Seahawks- traded to get whitehurst for some reason. not sure what is going on there but they had a lot of other needs to fill.

All it takes is one team..and if you have a guy that you think can be your franchise you dont pass on that

With that said I think Clausen will be a good pick but he just may be a jerk and as long as he wins and is nice to his team then I dont care

They say a message board is like a water cooler. More like a KoolAid cooler. First you guys wanted Moore in there, because he is the answer. He went 4-1 with a high QB rating and you were sure the Panthers were set at QB. Then they invest their top pick not on a wide receiver, which you all have been begging for for three or four years now, but on Clausen, who was supposed to go top 10 (according to Kiper) but slipped all the way to 48. Now suddenly his negatives come to light and by God he's going to be great because of it. What happened to the Moore love fest? LOL

We're not annointing Clausen as the starter or anything. We're just recognizing that with both Moore and Clausen, we've probably got our franchise quarterback.

I'd like to see Moore lead this team, but if he can't, by all means let's give Clausen a shot. But I'm still high on Moore, as I think many here are.

You completely missed my point.

I do think there are some intangible question marks with Clausen. That is why I would not have taken him high in the first round.....way too much bust risk.

However, at the #48 pick, you are not investing tons of money. He is definitely worth the gamble at that compensation level.

Would I have been just as happy taking a WR (Golden Tate) at #48? Absolutely

Am I happy we are taking a chance on Clausen with that pick? Absolutely

That's the way things work around here! You know that. :P

Yeah excitement over a good value pick and instant competition for the incumbent quarterback = *** matt moore goooo clausen. You've got us by the balls Rams guy.

It seems like you're making a key assumption here-namely, that most of the board wants Matt Moore run out of town and Clausen as the day one starter. Yeah that's...not correct.

Also congrats on being quoted four posts in a row.

Damn! I knew I should have quoted him again to try to break some sort of forum record that isn't even recorded and no one knows or cares about!

Also, he is right to some degree; many on the forum have seemingly shifted gears in regards to Moore, but I think it has more to do with those people not speaking out about Moore beforehand than it does with Clausen.

there was only 3 or 4 teams who don't need a franchise QB because they already have one. those teams who need one also have lots of other needs and/or make questionable decisions on a regular basis.

him falling so far was odd but i'm really thinking that it wasn't on him. there were other factors. those few that might have passed on character concerns didn't do their due diligence in checking him out. good for us.

like someone else said, if there were any serious character concerns to worry about, there's no way the panthers would have selected him when they did or worked so hard to try to get him.

the benefit of moore was that he wasn't jake and he doesn't make mistakes. the ceiling was always relatively low with him. he was going to be good...not great but that was ok because of the rest of the team's strengths.

clausen can be that elite QB that can put the panthers over the top. the ceiling is much higher with him.

jake>moore>clausen (potentially) nothing wrong with wanting the best QB to get the job and getting excited because you might now have an actual franchise QB who can be elite on the team and get you in the playoffs.

much better than being a fan of a team that has had a top 3 pick the last 3 years who picked their franchise QB and is still looking at being 3rd or 4th in a suck division and probably another top 5 pick in the draft next year.

At this point, Clausen is ours, no matter what we can say or do about it. I'm going to embrace the kid, and hope from here on out that every team but Carolina wishes they had drafted him. He may be a prick, but he's ours. Throw for 4,000 yards and 40 TD's every season Jimmy.

^This

I always thought he was a d-bag. Hated his face. Wished some team I hate would draft and overpay him. Etc, etc, etc.

However, now that he's ours, I have to support him and hope that I was wrong before. I don't know the kid personally, maybe he's not a prick. All I know is what I read on the internet. So, I'm optimistic and hope for the best, instead of lamenting or complaining about something that has already happened.

You had your Jake Kool Aid crowd for years on here. Then you had your Matt Moore guys, and it seems some of them (many?) have already flipped over to Clausen, who hasn't thrown a pass in the NFL yet, and whose personality was even called out by Jon Gruden in those little film sessions he was doing for espn before the draft.
