In every interview I've seen, Clausen has said all the right things and he doesn't come off as being anything like Ryan Leaf. About the only public thing that people can pick on was during the Gruden interview where he said his WR didn't follow his signal, and as long as he wasn't lying, then so what?

Call me crazy, but every QB I've ever had outside of pop warner had a hint of dickheadedness to him. And I played my ass off for every one of them if they took command of the huddle and lead the team. You can be an arrogant, cocky player without being a Roethlisbergian douchebag.

Interesting read, but that article makes it sound like the Panthers were literally the only team who liked him, which isn't true. There were a number of others who were interested, but didn't need a quarterback.

I don't know... I can't say that. I mean every team but Chicago had a chance to take him and they didn't. Almost half those teams had a 2nd chance to take him and they didn't.

Honestly IMO, we didn't need a QB either, but we took him for the value and at the least depth. So, I don't believe any other team wanted him or liked him. Eventually someone would've taken him if we hadn't, but not b/c they liked him.

I've never heard so much trash talked about a kid that hasn't even taken a snap in the NFL. It's ridiculous. He apparently really did rub a lot of people the wrong way, or he just emits douche-ness...

All that being said, I'm starting to get pissed off with this slander-fest... I didn't even like him before the draft. But, he hasn't even been given a chance.

Also, I'm tired of hearing the "he reminded me of Ryan Leaf" talk. Why? Because for one, no one was talking all that sh*t from what I can remember when Leaf was drafted b/c they didn't know he was a douchebag yet. If they did, there wouldn't have been any questions as to whether he or Manning would be drafted first.

Second, Leaf was drafted to come in and be a starter, take over a team and be a franchise QB as a rookie. It's not even close with Clausen. He's not expected to be the starter. He could end up being that if he earns it. But, Moore is an outstanding QB (going on last years' performances), so if he does win the job he worked for it - something Leaf didn't have to do. Leaf didn't earn his spot - it was given to him, which had a lot to do with his disastrous career when combined with his level of maturity at the time. There's no comparison.

You know who else a lot of people consider to be a raging dickhead and is a great NFL QB? Phillip Rivers. I'm tired of hearing all of this poo about Clausen's personality. If it needs adjusting, life in the NFL will do that for him. Now shut the fug up and let him play ball.

alot of teams pass on players because of "character concerns" and end up looking dumb for forgetting about talent that wins games. Sure you need good character, but give me an arrogant player that plays his azz off over a goody two shoes that can't win games when it matters any day.

rivers is cocky as hell and he's freakin awesome. i love having him on my fantasy team. he took over and put LT out to pasture.

If he was a kiss ass like Matt Ryan, everyone would love the kid, no matter how horribly he performed on the field. Ryan, even with the addition of Tony G. had a qb rating of 80 last season, Still, most sports media outlets I see writing about him talk about how he's a great qb.

At this point, Clausen is ours, no matter what we can say or do about it. I'm going to embrace the kid, and hope from here on out that every team but Carolina wishes they had drafted him. He may be a prick, but he's ours. Throw for 4,000 yards and 40 TD's every season Jimmy.

I honestly don't think we would have drafted him if his character concerns were that bad.

If he was really an arrogant Jerk then he would have told smitty to fug off when he wanted him to get him some cactus cooler. Theres been plenty of situations of rookies getting in fights and stuff over hazing. Instead he was humble enough to be Smitty's servant.

We'll see how he deals with getting taped to the goalpost.

I really think people have completely blown off the cactus cooler thing as just Smitty being smitty or whatever. But Smitty was seeing how Clausen would react to being given a trivial task by a vet. If he really was a douche, he would have said something along the lines of "What? Hell no I'm not going through all that trouble just to bring you a f**king drink."

Smitty was testing him, and judging by the glowing praise of Clausen his given every chance he's had since then, Jimmy passed.

If we refused to draft cocky players, we'd have a pretty small draft board. In all likelihood, we'd have to run the team with no wide receivers or defensive backs at all.

If he's not a jerk to his teammates or the fans, I'm not terribly concerned. If he annoys opponents, I won't mind as long as he can back it up.

And I have to admit, there's an evil little part of my brain that would enjoy seeing Jimmy Clausen and Matt Ryan become an east coast version of Phillip Rivers and Jay Cutler.

i see people talking about him not being selected by 30 teams as an indictment that there is something wrong with him but i don't think thats the case at all. plenty of reasons for teams to not select a QB at all.

Buffalo Bills- too many needs and too busy being stupid with their draft picks

Miami Dolphins- just found their franchise QB and spent an early pick on another QB last year

New England Patriots- didn't need him....tom brady

New York Jets- didn't need him...mark sanchez

Baltimore Ravens- didn't need him...joe flacco

Cincinnati Bengals- didn't need him...carson palmer

Cleveland Browns- holmgren was busy filling other needs and didn't want to draft a QB early

Pittsburgh Steelers- didn't need him...as much of a douche rapist as big ben is, QB wasn't a top need.

Houston Texans- didn't need him...matt schaub

Indianapolis Colts- didn't need him...peyton

Jacksonville Jaguars- too busy reaching for tyson alualu. didn't draft a QB anyway.

Tennessee Titans- didn't need him...vince young showed back up

Kansas City Chiefs- too busy trying to prove that matt casell is a franchise QB

Oakland Raiders- got burned with their last drafted QB. had eyes on campbell.

San Francisco 49ers- too many other needs

Seattle Seahawks- traded to get whitehurst for some reason. not sure what is going on there but they had a lot of other needs to fill.

I absolutely love that everyone hates him. Love it.

I hope he wins the starting job and turns this team into a perennial SB contender.

For far too long we've just been a blip on everyone's radar - a good team, but really quite a boring one. Picking up a great QB that everyone but us hates is exactly what this franchise needs.
