So the Dallas Mavericks have completely lost their minds

If you were entertaining trading him why not put him on the auction block? You would've definitely got way better offers than that. I mean, if you're going to trade with the Lakers at least demand a decent young building block back from them like Dalton Knecht or SOMETHING. This is just baffling unless the league brass knows something about Doncic that drastically reduces his value. Something off the court or some underlying injury issue that is going to cut his prime short or something. Because this just flat out doesn't make sense.

Supposedly this trade caught Lebron by surprise too.

I could see it. I mean, if it's true that the Lakers initiated the conversation let's just play this out. News broke well into Friday evening. This honest to god feels like something where the Lakers' GM is throwing down beers with buddies and they hype him up to make the wildest trade offer he can think up just because fug it, why not? HOLY FUG THEY ACTUALLY SAID YES!!!! LOLOLOLOL

At first glance it's a baffling trade to say the least. Even if the Mavs were concerned about his conditioning and injuries he's still only 25 years old. The Mavs haven't been known to be a poorly run org. That is not to say they are right or wrong here. But there's got to be more than they are letting on about. This will be interesting to revisit in a few years.

Even if you wanted to sell Luka, why would you accept a 31 year old AD as the return?  All Dallas has is guys past their prime now.

Bingo. Even if you want to sell you want to get a good price. They just sold Manhattan real estate at a Charlotte price.

    • *slaps roof of the roster* this bad boy has Dirty Dan Chisena on it
    • I was watching the reactions of different people to the pic on YouTube this morning and Mike McCarthy said that there are two types of receivers: Framers and Pluckers. Framers have to frame the ball up to catch it sbd pluckers just pluck the ball out of the air no matter where it is and TMac is obviously a plucker, which is kind of fun to watch but almost boring  because he just makes it look effortless. What got me was there was some DB also on the show that said "DBs love Framers" . I know people will talk about his level of competition in college vs what he will face in the pros (which can be said for any player coming into the pros from college....it's a silly argument). But it's obvious that TMac was THE focal point of their offense. It was obvious to people watching, but also obvious to teams they were playing. Teams they faced KNEW that they were going to be going to TMac early and often and that they had to put most of their efforts into stopping him, so they did and they couldn't. Not only could they not stop him, he made it look easy and effortless. He absolutely dominated and there is no question about that. If you have a player, let's say a WR, that has been playing against defenders who might not be the best out there, what do you want to see them do? Struggle? Have to fight hard to keep it competitive? Or do you want him to make it look effortless and make it look like a man playing against  children? I was/am still in shock a bit because 1) it's obvious that the biggest need we had was defense even though WR was still a huge nerd and 2) I really believed that it was going to be defense. There was no doubt in my mind that we would be going defense and there was nothing leaking out of pantherland from usual media sources or from the few remaining people/connections I had come to rely on that indicated they were seriously considering TMac. This tells me 2 things. 1) they are doing better about keeping their intentions quiet and misleading the NFL community (this is good) 2) they went by their board exclusively and didn't draft based on need, but by BPA using their own standards and metrics and weren't swayed by what all the draft pundits were saying (this also is good). I will get more comfortable with the pick, and so will 99% of the rest of you. For the remainder 1%....they just need to eat more fiber.
    • Any clips of T-Mac talking about that? I'd be very interested hearing it. I have to think that when someone is as much of a focal point of an offense as he was you're almost forced to coast on plays when you're probably not getting the ball.
