Should the panthers consider T.O?

Recommended Posts

We should, but we won't.

We shouldn't and we won't. If we wanted an old WR we'd bring Moose back, at least we know he gives his all, all of the time and is still a tenacious blocker in the run game. TO doesn't really offer us anything than an aging wideout with a bad attitude and a tendency to drop passes.

Moose is a better blocker (or at least more willing) but T.O. is much more of an offensive weapon than Moose.

A few years ago I would have had no interest in T.O. simply because of his attitude, but he's been humbled - don't think he would cause much trouble at this point.

Bottom line is we ain't gonna go after him, so there's really no point to discussing it. Going after T.O. would be totally inconsistent with everything we've done this offseason.

I don't even care about T.O's attitude anymore. The problem is that he is getting old and he wasn't even that good on the field last year. Besides that, where would they put him? The Panthers are trying to develop their own young WR's, but you can't do that if you have to cut one of them to make room on the roster for an aging vet.

Yet another reporter who is clueless when it comes to the Panthers....

We didn't re-sign Moose for a reason... Why would we go after T.O.?

T.O. this year is far superior to Moose.

I say hell yes! Offer him for a 1 year deal for 2.5 million (half of what he's wanting) and give us a better option than DJ and our rookies. This gives the rookies a chance to get up to speed in their first season. Very few rookie WR's contribute a tremendous amount to the team. I don't see what it would hurt offering him a low-ball contract for 1 year.

Compare stats from last season. Steve Smith, Terrel Owens, TJ Housh. Miles Austin, Moose

Avg. Yards per catch

SS 15.1

TO 15.1

TJ 11.3

MA 16.3

MM 11.0

TOTAL TD'S

SS 7

TO 6

TJ 3

MA 11

MM 1

RECEPTIONS 40+ YARDS

SS 7

TO 5

TJ 1

MA 8

MM 0

TOTAL POINTS

SS 44

TO 36

TJ 18

MA 66

MM 6

This was done on the crappy Bills team with no quarterback to speak of. The Bills were ranked 30th in passing last season. TJ did squat and Seattle was ranked in the top half of the league at 15th.

Compare TO's stats to Moose last year and it's clear he's far superior to Moose.

TO still has something to offer and I think he'd be a good 1 or 2 year fit, especially since Smitty doesn't want to be the #1 anymore.

No... Declining skills and the media circus isn't worth it...

And, he has no intention of coming off that $5m a year contract demand...

that's why it's an "offer" and the chance to be the #1 would play to his ego. he won't get a chance to be the #1 anywhere else.

What makes you think he could beat out SS for the #1 spot???

I don't think Foxy would ever let it be a real competition for the first spot. Steve Smith made the comment about the team bringing in a younger faster receiver to take over his one spot, because he know eventually he'll lose a step like he witnessed with Moose. Bringing in TO whose pretty much the same age as him and of a similar skill set for a competition would be perceived as a smack in the face to Smitty and would cause A LOT of unneeded problems for a young team.
