Cam Newton wouldn't trade MVP Award for Super Bowl Ring

Are we really surprised that Cam Newton would take an individual award over a collective one? Nope, because that is Cam Newton down to a tee.

Cam Newton has always loved the attention and the spotlight. It’s how he styled himself on and off the field. When he did well, his smiled beamed and he was arguably brash and arrogant. When he struggled, he sulked and put a towel over his head or got grumpy and didn’t want to do press conferences. Most of us defended him when he was here, but if he played on any other team we probably would have criticised him for how he acted on and off the field.

Can't believe all these years later folks still harbor animosity like this toward him even bringing up the extremely dead beaten horse that was him wearing the towel on his head. Hey I'll tell you straight up bud give me the sore loser that is legitimately livid after a loss 10 times out of 10 over the guys who just laugh it up and move on. Cam got endless grief for trying to change the pitiful culture here. Wild.

I agree with you on the drive comment.

That said I would also say that Cam was pretty immature when he came into the league and handled losing poorly.

I also dont blame him. He basically dominated at every level and never lost games. Coming into the league and playing on the worst team... yeah that's got to be hard to deal with.

If Cam wins a SB ring, then it means that 58,59, 88… and all the other players who played their guts out that season do as well. Luke would be a lock 1st ballot HOFer with a SB win. It’s the only missing piece in his career. TD’s story capped off with a SB ring?

The jump on the ball argument is dead, so this isn’t about that to me. This is about ‘would you rather take your MVP or have all your teammates flaunt a SB ring?’

I like Cam, but I’m a panthers fan. I’ve tried to find a way to understand what he said that doesn’t disrespect his team, but I’m sorry, I can’t.

Defend him, say it’s click bait, whatever… I like you, but poor form on that one, Cam.

The coaches and staff and OWNER gets a ring too.

Like I said, such a selfish answer and terrible defense of it as well.

I also wonder if the way the Super Bowl went contributes to this, you know,  maybe the word officiated game I've ever seen etc.  But also Cam carried that team, hard.  It was a huge accomplishment considering the team he had so that award was big.

I don’t harbour animosity. I simply feel that Cam Newton was one of those people that smiled when he won and sulked when he lost. I don’t recall interpreting his actions as livid (eg Tom Brady throwing his helmet, or Aaron Rodgers yelling at receivers after dropping/missing a pass). I saw someone that was immature (more so earlier in his career) and a sore loser who sulked.

Again, I enjoyed watching Cam Newton as our quarterback and he tried his best to win here. However, we often look at our players with rose tinted glasses rather than seeing what everyone else sees and comments on.

Would Marino trade careers w/ Dilfer just because Dilfer has a ring?

Why does he have trade careers? I bet he would swap that league MVP for a Lombardi.  He doesn’t have to give up the actual season he had.  Just the award.

Think the Lombardi would move him higher up the GOAT list than the MVP does with everything else being the same

He’s going to catch flack for that comment of all 11 guys doing their job to win a SB. Because he didn’t jump on that loose ball.

I wonder if that also was a slight dig at Remmers. His breakdowns in protection was the biggest factor in that superbowl outcome.

He should be making digs at Mike Shula, because anyone with half a brain cell would know that Remmers isn't blocking Von Miller 1-on-1. Yet that is what we asked of him the entire game without a RB or TE to help chip...
