Cam Newton wouldn't trade MVP Award for Super Bowl Ring

It's interesting that the SB fumble keeps coming up.  I saw an interview recently with one of the Panthers DB's in that SB who said that he felt more responsible than Cam.  He apparently dropped what he viewed as an easy pick 6 very early in the game.  The guy felt that would have completely changed the game . . . and he's not wrong.

Are we really surprised that Cam Newton would take an individual award over a collective one? Nope, because that is Cam Newton down to a tee.

I was scrolling through and was surprised that people here didnt take the headline bait...then I read this..

Flashy headline but what he said in the full context of what he said isn't wrong. winning a SB is a team accomplishment and requires multiple players, coaches, etc. doing their jobs. Cam did his job in 2015 and the MVP is evidence of that (no he wasn't perfect in the SB but the OL and refs fuged him, he didn't lose us that game by any means). I've said the same thing too -- to judge an individual player in a team sport like this, awards like MVP, all pro, etc. are more important and say a lot more than SB rings.

reality is, winning his MVP is a team accomplishment he gets all the credit for.

I mean I get what he was attempting to say.  I think Jonathan Jones pretty much nailed why Cam wasn't exactly right in his argument.  Not saying he is really wrong though.

Cam is now in the "getting clicks, staying in the news cycle" phase of his career.  Him saying this shouldnt shock anyone.   He wants people talking about him.  Hence this comment and the money comment

Yep.  He was already talking on his podcast.  ESPN just realized he would be good on the show and paid him for it.

Incorrect, I’ve not taken the bait. I listened to what he said and I can appreciate his standpoint. He would rather have an MVP and made the impact he did than have a career like Brad Johnson or Nick Foles, both of whom won super bowls but would never been considered hall of fame or MVP caliber quarterbacks. However, that is a very ‘me’ orientated way of thinking, though I guess swapping it for a Super Bowl ring could be considered in a similar way.

Like I said, I don’t blame him for his point of view, but his reaction doesn’t surprise me and shouldn’t surprise anyone else.

Exactly. But at the end of the day one play is one play. The Panthers were still in that game late. They just picked the absolute worst time to have their worst game of the season. It was a collective loss. Sh*t happens. It's in the past. Only numbskulls hone in on the fumble in a vacuum.

Many quarterbacks that have played in the NFL  point to Dan Marino as the best to ever play the game.

His talent was off the charts, and 💯 undeniable in an age when the NFL was NOT passing league, and was VERY difficult to put up those kind of numbers on a consistent basis. Is too bad he never had a complete team around him.

    • He was beat on two breakaways, those are hardly “soft goals”. Should have closed the five hole and stopped the last one.  He held it to less than the opposing goalie so we won. Stopped 19 of 20 that’s a .900 SV%. No one claimed he was elite but he’s not terrible either.
    • I realize that it has been about 2 weeks since the last post; these things evolve.  I n April we will laugh at our January comments. OK, I obtained some intelligence watching ESPN, I think.  Mina said (and I was not paying attention to the reasons they were talking about this because a squirrel ran by the window) that she does not think Tennessee is interested in taking a QB at #1.  To me, that means it will be Hunter.  Then Dan (i think) chimed in that the Browns may not take a QB at #2.  Oh my!!  I would guess they would trade back, but with Watson being out in 2025, what are they going to do?  I understand that they might move back, pick up an OT, and then pick someone like local hero Will Howard in the early second round.  Lotta tea leaf reading there, but the point is, the teams at the top may not be in love with Ward and Sanders....
    • I'm kinda shocked your here usually you don't show up until the playoffs and only then to complain, Freddie certainly wasn't great agaist the rags but it's a team sport Freddie has a .920% and a 2.2 GAA while playing for us in the playoffs two goals a game ain't gonna win you many games in the playoffs. Pyotr on the other hand...... let's just say he turns into last years raanta come playoff time
