Cam Newton wouldn't trade MVP Award for Super Bowl Ring

He’s going to catch flack for that comment of all 11 guys doing their job to win a SB. Because he didn’t jump on that loose ball.

I wonder if that also was a slight dig at Remmers. His breakdowns in protection was the biggest factor in that superbowl outcome.

Newton definitely was let down by others during that Super Bowl; we had momentum going down the field so many times only to turn the ball over.

We see especially in these 2025 playoffs where those turnovers end up being the difference.

Interesting for sure, I think I remember him saying if he could go back he’d tear every ligament in his knee to jump on that ball. I get where he is coming from on this, most people, especially social media, won’t take this well.

Flashy headline but what he said in the full context of what he said isn't wrong. winning a SB is a team accomplishment and requires multiple players, coaches, etc. doing their jobs. Cam did his job in 2015 and the MVP is evidence of that (no he wasn't perfect in the SB but the OL and refs fuged him, he didn't lose us that game by any means). I've said the same thing too -- to judge an individual player in a team sport like this, awards like MVP, all pro, etc. are more important and say a lot more than SB rings.

doubtful it's a dig at Remmers, Cam was never one to blame his teammates. and honestly the real fug up wasn't Remmers, it was the coaching staff for putting him in that position and not adjusting play calling and blocking schemes

Explains a lot of what appears to be going on during Cam's stint on the Special Forces show:

  • during a team activity, Cam purposefully performs an action towards a fellow teammate (also a former NFL player) that could be taken as inappropriate or even dangerous by the Staff if they had seen it was done purposefully. Afterwards, Cam said "that was for all the times your team beat Carolina". Implies that in a team activity, Cam is still thinking about himself
  • during an individual activity, Cam doesn't do the required exercises when not being observed directly by the Staff. Implies that cutting corners or directions given to the team could be ignored for personal benefit (it wasn't - resulted in a team punishment)

There's lots of positives of Cam during the show, too. So this definitely shouldn't be considered a knock on him. That stuff looked tough for everyone involved - kudos for all of them for even saying "yes" in the first place, 'cause everyone looked miserable. Except Carey Hart (aka Mr P!nk). He looked like he was having a blast throughout the whole thing

But taking specific examples out of context of what those celebs were put through -- one could draw comparisons to SB50 (or even expand into why we lost that final game in Atlanta to miss a "perfect season") to that comment about MVP being more valuable to Cam than the team win would have been

Are we really surprised that Cam Newton would take an individual award over a collective one? Nope, because that is Cam Newton down to a tee.

Cam Newton has always loved the attention and the spotlight. It’s how he styled himself on and off the field. When he did well, his smiled beamed and he was arguably brash and arrogant. When he struggled, he sulked and put a towel over his head or got grumpy and didn’t want to do press conferences. Most of us defended him when he was here, but if he played on any other team we probably would have criticised him for how he acted on and off the field.

Now that’s not to say that Cam Newton was a bad teammate - he wasn’t. He put his body on the line and tried his best. He also did a lot of work in the community and went above and beyond. He’s also not wrong that he did his job, for the most part, in 2015. So he deserved the recognition of the MVP and I can’t blame him for not wanting to swap that for a Super Bowl, but the response is fitting with how he presents himself, whereas I think others former MVPs would swap that award for a Super Bowl win.
