Dude i really don't think you know what a "grade a" is both were soft as crap the first one he's shrinking back into the crease (making himself smaller) and doesn't track the puck at all..... the second he has his pads way out of place and doesn't have his stick flush on the ice these were NOT grade A shots he was squared up with both and poor postistiong screwed him.

You tend to call any goal against the canes a soft goal it seems. A breakaway shot is indeed a grade A chance.

No he's not horrible he's just horribly inconsistent he can make amazing saves and then just complete brain farts....

I expect the dude to save the crazy ones but I also expect him to have at least one controller disconnected goal every game.

He's not great agaist break aways Freddie probably stops both but a minimum of 1.

Inconsistent is the rub. He has never been able to have stretches of being consistent. He can look like an elite goaltender or Spencer Martin. Sometimes in the same game.

My man.  Both of Koochies goals weren’t this fault.  Both were 1-0 breakaways that Orlov fuged up. Both of them. Koochie was a wild man but those two weren’t super soft. They were grade A breakaways.  Your koochie hatred is showing right now.

Today on "Why we don't win shootouts". A goalie that can't stop a  breakaway is crap.

Maybe he could have played it better. But I do indeed know what a grade A is. The other poster just covered it.  To me and the other hockey geeks, Kooch lets in a softy from the blue line or a shot from the far lines with 30 feet to see it. That’s a softy. 1-0 breakaways or “high danger” shots when the shooter gets past the defense and is 5 feet from the net with a wide open space to the goalie.  Those are grade A shots. Both goalies are hard to stop for Igor, Bob, or Vasy. Hell even Freddie. No goalie is perfect on those.   Koochie stopped everything else and we won. That is alllll I care about.  Well and that Moose scored.

Shootouts are probably the most meaningless thing anyways.  Nobody is winning a cup because they were good at shootouts.  I guess it’s possible that your team barely makes the 8 seed because of shootout wins, but it’s pretty marginal.

Honestly regular season OT is trash.  They’re just trying to end the game fast.

Most frequently...

It's possitioning if he was more consistent and in control for the softer shots he would be fantastic... he just plays out of control all the time instead of realizing he doesn't need to go for a flashy save on every shot... just play the angles dude keep the stick in your hand and on the ice.

Okay a breakway is a grade A CHANCE IN my book, but neither of those SHOTS WERE GRADE A even being a breakaway both were easily stop able if he PLAYS more fundemently....

You don't shrink on a breakaway (kinda shocked he did not usually his MO)

And you don't have your stick on the ice....

Both could have been extremely routine saves.

I was tired last night but I will concede a break away is a great chance to have a grade A, with the cavite that neither shot was a grade A shot.

Your right i was tired last night a breakaway is a GRADE A CHANCE,

I do not however believe those were GRADE A shots.... both were very save able if he's not shrinking into the net or if he has his damn stick on the ice (fundamental goaltending)

I mean, part of it is that he is just completely fuging nuts. It's his greatest strength and greatest weakness.

All of you are right in some respects. But, while the Bedard goal was indeed a grade A chance, it wasn't that difficult to defend and, to be honest, #52 did every-fugging-thing wrong on that play.

He was back-pedaling into the net, and you can't get to a butterfly when you're skating backward- it's physically impossible. He was worried about the pass- which wasn't happening. Goalie 101: goalie takes the puck, defender takes the trailer in a 2-on-1. His stick was up and that 5-hole was looming exceptionally large and an easy target. Had #52 gone out and remained on top, he would have forced Bedard's shot 3' earlier and maybe even had a chance at a poke-check.

Regardless, even if Bedard missed the entire net, it was beyond horribly played by Kochetkov.

Sure goalie hasn’t been a strong suit for the team.  But in my opinion it really hasn’t been the reason the team has stalled out in the playoffs.  Our defense is typically good enough to limit grade A chances.  We just need to score frickin goals.

A lot of Stanley cups have been won by goalies that got hot at the right time.  Not necessarily the best goalie.

Every year but two years ago vs Florida in the ECF it has been. We scored at Will AND had great goalie play the 2022-23 playoffs. Scoring just dried up vs florida. All were 1,goal games.  Last year, we had the scoring but rod ran freddie into the ground. AND our PK just poo the bed.  This year, I really hope it’s a 60/40 or 70/30 split between Freddie and koochie. Freddie gets two games koochie gets 1.  Keep him healthy.   The canes will make a deep run if we get scoring and goalie play.
