How much authority will Foxy have..and other questions.

I completely disagree.

If Richardson wanted to control things as explicitly as you think he is, then Fox would be gone and someone old and never had their shot would be brought in to be the puppet. A situation similar to Al Davis and Tom Cable in his first year.

This would be cheaper and prevent any awkward or potentially damaging events occurring behind the scenes.

Whilst Richardson is bound to have given the directive to get younger and cheaper, it would have fallen on the guys employed to make the football decisions to decide who stays and who goes. If they had no control then Fox really would have tried to move, as if he is not calling the shots it puts him in a situation that he cant succeed in.

Regarding the draft? Well frankly I think anyone who assumes Hurney and Fox had no input on the drafting of Clausen etc are doing them a disservice. Of course it makes sense that a coach who is not going to be here the following year would pick players that can only help them immediately. However that usually happens when they are on 'the hot seat', the difference being that Fox and Co are simply seeing their contracts expire. Rather than try and win now, he chose players that would be good for the future of the franchise, which can only reflect favourably on his resume, as it shows he will always make objective decisions. You also must not have seen or heard about the excitement that the whole war room had as Clausen inched closer to their pick. It was obvious that everyone in that room wanted him.

I also find the concept of a 'lame duck' coach ridiculous. Lame duck is when they are no longer calling the shots. No one knows if that is the case, but common sense would suggest Fox would not be here if that were happening. So all it is, is that he is in the last year of his contract. This happens to players ALL the time and no one talks about how they are in an awkward situation, in fact contract years often result in big extensions or new contracts elsewhere.

Do I trust Fox with QB decisions? Yeah, pretty much. Delhomme was an entirely different situation to any other call they have had to make. Jake was Fox's guy his entire tenure here. Jake also had been the voice and face of the franchise for it's most successful years. Matt Moore has performed admirably and Clausen has great potential, but whoever starts and if they play poorly, will get benched. There is no loyalty built up here anymore, so each QB is playing from a clean slate. It is because of this I would be STUNNED if Clausen starts, as benching him mid way through his rookie year could be disastrous. Even if Moore is playing averagely I would still prefer him to continue. Let Clausen be truly ready for when he starts.
