Richardson has cleaned our books...so what does this do for us?

With willis signing this big extension today...this has me wondering.

I honestly can't see a lockout happening though. I mean you're talking about billions upon billions of dollars lost if that happens.

I know the NFL will have a season ..Goodell has already said as much.

i don't even know what they are whining about with the new agreement. Something about rookie salary cap (which only makes sense) and slightly reducing money that goes to super elite players (dont they make poo tons anyways?) so that teams dont die.

But the original question is what does this year mean for us? It can mean everything, not least of which, what becomes of Fox? If Moore pans out, and we can shore up the special teams, there's no reason we can't have a big year. Our schedule is weak, and we're coming off a disappointing season, and Fox's teams always go hot-cold-hot-cold, so we're due to be hot again. But if we should actually get and/or win the SB, how should the Fox situation be looked at? The FO will have an interesting choice to make about him!

As for 2011, who can say? I find it hard to believe that the league, and this includes the players, would let the cash cow be taken down for awhile! There is a real danger, however, in that while the owners remember the experience of the previous strike (in 1987, and that happened just 5 years after the first one in '82), there are no active players who would remember what that was all about, or the impact it had on the players! Naivity and ignorance may contribute to some rash decisions being made. I hope that's not the case, but it could be a real possibility.

If they go to the point of a lockout, then all contracts will be null and void I would think. That could be considered a breach of contract by the owners. I could be wrong, but it would make sense. Can you imagine the scramble that would occur if all NFL contracts were suddenly voided????

There are several big issues in the CBA between the owners and players and then there are issues between the owners. Everything from wanting to give the players 20 less of the revenue on one side to deciding how ro divy up the revenue between the have and have not teams on the other side.

As for contracts, all the contracts which extend through 2011 would still be in effect. No players would get paid next year unless their money is guaranteed if there is a lockout. If they play an abbreviated season I don't know but assume the salaries would be prorated.

Where does the current situation leave us. With a ton of players with expiring contracts, 1 year tenders, and several restricted and free agents next year. Assuming we play, if Richardson doesn't open up the wallet next year and spend upwards of 100 million in signing bonuses to keep many of the players, we will looking at a roster in 2011 which is very different from this year's.
