reporters tone will give us hint about which qb the team is going to go with

I won't be surprised if Moore starts because he's a vet and Fox is pretty conservative on playing rookies or young players over vets.

I won't be surprised if Clausen starts because of Fox's comments about not liking Moore's approach to the game. He's never drafted a QB high before so I believe that could be sign he doesn't have confidence in the position. As supportive as he was of Jake he hasn't shown any support of Moore what-so-ever. I would figure that he would have talked about what his conversation was with him during the draft. He was never shy about his love of Jake, he hasn't shown any support for Moore.

Moore will start the year. How long he plays will depend of how he plays. But Fox is not going to start Clausen unless Moore blows up in the pre-season. Moore was QB rated as a top 10 quarterback while he was in there last year.

he was the second highest rated during his span as a starter behind pass happy Philip rivers, that's saying alot

Second highest rating doesnt say alot, any descent quarterback should be able to get good numbers based off of how defenses line up and play against us. But I am very excited to see Moore playing a whole season and I highly doubt Fox gets risky and puts Clausen in. Now if Fox is extended next year will be a whole different ball game and I doubt Moore will be tendered.

I don't think Clausen has won the job yet. But the writing is on the wall: Clausen is the future of this team unless he has an epic meltdown. Even if Moore has a great year next year..... Clausen will be the starter in the next three seasons barring something unexpected. You could see it in Hurneys eye and goofy smile right after they drafted him.

The good news is: if the Panthers are able to flip Moore for a draft pick (second rounder maybe...? depend on how well Moore plays obviously) in the future, we have a solid young back-up in Pike or Cantwell.

As a fan I'm very excited about promising talent competing for the position for the first time in a while maybe even in Panthers' history. I just hope that the desicion on who is the better quaterback is clear, because I definitely don't want a McNabb-Kolb situation in Carolina. Which brings me to my final point: At some point this year Moore will have a pretty bad game, setting of a swarm of old posts and threads saying: "I told you Clausen was better.... remember that touchdown pass he had to Jarrett in the preseason...he makes our team better" or "I told you Clausen would be the quaterback by Week eight" or even worse "Matt Moore= Jake Delhomme 2.0.... great guy, can't throw the ball at all"

I dont even want to come close to this place after said game happens.

We will start with Moore but may turn to Clausen late if we are out of the race. It won't be solely based on who plays best though. There is a good chance Moore is gone no matter how well he plays. We are likely to sign Clausen for 5 years and 15 million dollars or so based on being a second rounder. Moore will be a free agent next year and if he plays anything like he did last year will command a price of between 8 and 11 million a year which would equate to a 5 year deal for 40-55 million at least. Do you really think in 2011 we will tie up 55-70 million in the quarterback position? Now if you had a choice to pick a guy who costs you 3 million a year or one who costs you 10 million a year, you would go for cheap unless the expensive guy was the next Tom Brady. Unless of course you thought the 3 million dollar guy was the next Peyton Manning.

Given the way we have gone cheap this year, who thinks we go for cheap potential over the expensive proven commodity at quarterback next year???

If there's a CBA in place, Moore performs well and Pickles doesn't look ready, Matt will stay a Panther with a nice fat contract.

No CBA and Moore walks. If Moore sucks or does a so so job he walks. Jimmy looks like the second coming and Moore walks.

The team itself has already announced that Moore is the starter. Moore himself says the team told him as much directly. Fox has said so. So what's the mystery? There's no way in Heck that Claussen or any of the other QBs on the roster are going to start the season, unless and ONLY if Moore is hurt! And one of the 4 we have at present is going to be either cut or relegated to the practice squad. And who knows if we don't sign more FA QBs? Moore is going into his 4th year, Cantwell his 2nd, and Claussen and Pike are rookies, so don't discount the possibility that some other experienced QBs are brought in at some point before camp starts. And don't forget Amanti Edwards, though listed as a WR, played QB at his college, he might end up in the mix as well.

But Moore is the guy, as he should be. If we stink as a team, it is possible that a switch is made later in the season to see what some of the others can do, if we're out of PO contention. But until that happens, or Moore goes down hurt, Moore is the guy!

moore can lose the job at any time. it won't be just an injury that costs him the job. if he can't handle the pressure or clausen just flat out owns him in practice and the other players respond to him...if he sounds like jake on the field as a leader and moore can't pull that off...then we are going to be seeing a switch.
