so thats averages 10 mill a year..

and i assume Beason will get something very similar to that.. but what about TD..

he will probably want something close, but can we really have 20 mill a year wrapped up into 2 LBs??

i guess if they had no peoblem paying Pep 1 mill a game then they can swallow a similar pill..

article from April

"The NFL's done a good job of keeping myself and Patrick Willis joined at the hip," Beason said. "Whether he gets a deal first, or it happens to be me, the other one's going to be right behind him.

"I just don't think it's going to happen right now."

While he's hopeful the Panthers will extend an offer this year, he said there's no pressure on them to do so. He's under contract through 2011, and with a potential lockout on the horizon, Beason knows leverage is not with labor.

4-3 OLB's don't make the same as MLB's. IF Beason were to get 9 a year, Davis will get like 6.

From the PFT article:

It's not yet clear how the 49ers navigated the 30-percent rule, which applies to all renegotiations signed in the uncapped year. Per NFLPA records, Willis was due to earn a base salary of $760,000 in 2010, and $2.75 million next year.

Interesting... maybe there's a loophole here the Panthers can follow to give Kalil and DeAngelo Williams an extension?

Even if there was, I would be shocked if JR gives Hurney the green light to start spending now.

Beason will get a 5 year $45-47 million deal. This sets a benchmark.. Beason knows he will not get paid more than Willis.. this is actually very good news for Hurney and the Carolina Panthers. Expect Beason to get his deal done before the season starts.

As far as how this effects Thomas Davis.. it's doesn't really. Lance Briggs contract a couple year's ago probably has more impact on Davis' situation than Beason's contract. Lance Briggs was more highly regarded than Davis is now, especially with Davis coming off a ACL surgery.

But, for comparative purposes, Briggs got a 6-yr $36 million deal in 2008. Davis contract will be slightly less than that. We are probably looking at Davis in the $30 million range for 6 years which would average $5 million per season..

4-3 OLB's simply do not get paid well because they are easy to replace. Keep in mind, Will Witherspoon signed for a 6-yr $33 million deal with the rams when he left carolina a few years back. I think Davis is in line for a $30 million deal coming off his surgery.

wow it really is ridiculous how much professional athletes get paid in the modern day world..... then again they do generate a ton of revenue.... but still 29 million dollars guaranteed to play a game...... wow sometimes make you wonder. That said I trust Jon Beason completely with a huge contract..... I hope he retires a Panther

Beason isn't worth 10 mil a year. He can be replaced in the draft by a much cheaper alternative.***

*** actually, MLB aren't worth 10 mil a year. Willis only got that because he is the face of the 49ers.

no lol

I said I wouldn't say bull when Hurney said we would have trouble extending anyone because of the 30% rule until other teams have signed or extended their players.

And since it was only one, I will wait to see. Plus we could always extend our guys although everyone saying they aren't looking for it to happen translates to "my agent was told by Hurney that a deal wouldn't get done until the CBA gets resolved at the earliest". BUT it seems pretty clear that other teams don't seem to be under the austere budget we are under and that teams that believe they are contenders seem to be spending and locking up their core players.

Getting ready to call BS.
