Additions complete; how satisified are you entering 2010?

DT we did next to nothing for the 2nd straight year at probably the 2nd biggest need behind WR.

DE our additions amount to one 6th round Greg Hardy who is basically Pepper-Lite (physical specimen possibly even more questionable motor). Norwood I like there but I guarantee Fox will waste him a year at SLB before going back to DE (Gross, TD, Martin, need I go on).

Otherwise I agree.

Maybe long term the future looks bright because we will either have a bunch of young studs starter or a bunch of holes when they are cut because they can't hack it. But this year could go either way really.

Corey Irvin??? Not addressed? Tank T. Louis L.??

E. Brown and Hardy. No one is Peppers so we need to get back to the reality of solid players.

Sorry I was referring to the NT position the one that ended up biting us in the a$$. We are relying on 2 guys coming off IR (and them being unknowns as well) and a unknown to anchor an already gutted run D.

Am I the only one that sees a problem with the way they completely ignore a key part of the run D 2 years in a row in the draft and FA?

And we added E Brown last year so you can't use that as an addition, he was part of the D last year.

maybe they will surprize us, and pick up a veteran DT. i am beginning to wonder if meeks even likes big guys on the d-line at all.

I say no. Meeks likes smaller, quicker guys that are suited for pass rushing and at best hold their own against the run.

Agreed on the need for a legit NT and not putting all our eggs in the Louis Leonard basket.

I'm not sure that Tank Tyler and Louis Leonard are really unknown. Tyler has actually played in over 30 NFL games and started for an entire season at Kansas City, and they have both been in the league for 4 years. Maybe they're unknown to most of us, but I'm sure the coaching staff watched plenty of NFL film on these guys before they ever came here.

Another assumption people are making, is that Meeks's system is terrible against the run because he always had undersized DT's at Indy, so that will be the case here. Those people need to look at the roster, because even the much maligned Nick Hayden is just a shade under 300lbs. Meeks had DT's in the rotation that were about the same size as Charles Johnson when he was at Indy. Not to mention the fact that Meeks said right off the bat that this won't be the exact same defense that he ran at Indy. He said his system would be taylored to fit the skill sets of players that were here. They struggled early on against the run last year, for sure, but that was mainly because they were still learning the defense while dealing with the loss of Kemo at the same time. They got much better as the season went on.

So you appear to be a 14-2 person. I'd say that's pretty well excited about this season.

I love the Panthers and believe every year we could go 16-0 but the reality is there are 31 other good teams and the old saying ANY GIVEN SUNDAY

I don't really see a team I fear this season. As the season plays out. I do see between 10-6 and 12-4

Go Panthers

Not all guys that excel, or put up good numbers one place, do the same on another team (see Landon Johnson). I think Tyler is a better rotational tweener UT/NT, I actually would be more comfortable with Tyler and Leonard as our 2 DTs on run downs.

Leonard looked great before the injury but can you the panthers be so sure he will make a full recover. Doesn't that seem foolish to just hope and pray all the pices on this Dline work. Yeah people will say "and a rookie is supposed to help how?" Simple, not every rookie contributes in the same way but if you do your job scouting they should be able to contribute eventually due to injury or in a rotation.

I for one would like to have at least seen one of the 4 6ths we had used on Jeff Owens. Not only that but a 1 year low risk deal for HT couldn't hurt. Just use him sparingly and he should make it another season and our D looked stout with him in.

Why wouldn't Leonard make a full recovery? And don't you think they did their job scouting the guys they have? I don't think they just blindly traded away draft picks for guys they didn't know anything about, do you?

When your desperate you do a lot of things you regret, but no in this case I like both Tank and Leonard I just think it is unwise not to get another guy in this draft. Did you see that injury? It is not that hard to come back from (didn't Smitty break his ankle) but its not exactly a sure thing.

What about Corvey Irvin? I watched a couple of replays of his college games after the Panthers drafted him, and you could see that he has some nice athleticism for a big man. His biggest problem was that he needed to get stronger, so they stashed him on IR. It seems like everybody has already written him off as a bust even though we haven't seen him play a single down in a regular season game. I'm not saying that he will be a great player, but I don't know that he will be a bust either.

BTW, just to put some perspective on the size issue...a couple of years ago, the Colts drafted that Foster kid to play DT for them. That kid was listed at 6'2" 265lbs. That's about the same weight as Hilee Taylor.
