Unless there is additonal camp bodies or an injury happens, our roster is probably 95%-100% set for camp.

How comfortable are you with the 2010 Panthers?

1) Estatic

2) Happy

3) Satisfied

4) Not enthusiatstic

5) Extremely pissed

Also, at what positions do have you have genuine (not slight) concern at?

-QB

-FB

-WR (including TEs)

-DT

-DE

-DB

Me, I'm happy, but with concerns at FB, DT and DB.

What say you all?

I'm satisfied. One of the things that bothers me is that I'm not a big fan of the Tampa-2/Cover-2 and that's going to be the defense we run this year. Has anybody checked to see how many rushing yards per game the Colts gave up over Meeks' tenure there? Its not pretty, and it won't be here if we build our defense in the Ron Meeks mold.

So yeah, its our defense I'm most worried about, especially our defensive line. I think our LB and DBs will be fine, but if our DL is getting pushed around then our whole defense is going to collapse.

i think, like someone else has said, that a great compromise would be meek's secondary mixed with fox's DL ideas. but who knows if fox's version of a DL would work with meek's secondary scheme

Short term (2010 season)- 4) Not enthusiastic

Long term - 2) Happy

Concerns -DT, DE - zero proven players. The Tyler Brayton is as proven as it gets and he is the caliber player you patch in to a pretty good line.

DB - depth in general is a concern as well as SS.

Sure it would. Look at Tampa Bay over the years. They were never as weak as Meeks was in Indy against the run.

I bet you didn't realize that we have run a deviation of the cover 2 for the past 7 years.. otherwise you would be indifferent about running the tampa 2 this year. It's basically the same scheme we have run since Fox has been our coach.

I'd love that. What I really liked was the Cover-1 we ran towards the end of last year after the pick-up of Hollis Thomas. Given a full year, the difficiencies in pass coverage the Cover-1 has would be exploited though.

I miss Trgovac, or at least his model for our defense. Had I been here when we hired Meeks I would have expressed my dislike for him then.

I didn't realize it, thanks for letting me know. Let me clarify then: I don't like Ron Meeks.

    • I don't know about you but I have been a life long Chiefs fan for the past 4 years.
    • Sure there's a ton of transplants in Colorado now. But as far as Denver in particular goes the Broncos have also been around for 65 years. Someone moving to Denver is going to be far more likely to become a fan of the Broncos and even attend games versus someone moving to Charlotte and the Panthers. Like I said it's not just one single thing with us it's multiple factors.
    • He's definitely getting better. It's fun to watch.  I've been getting killed for this take, but with the current state of college football, it just takes more time to develop a quarterback. I don't think it's a plug and play position anymore. I'm really not sure if it ever was. NFL offenses have always been substantially more complex than the college game, and the college game has simplified even more in recent years. Many college teams do not have a physical playbook anymore. That's just not the national football league.  Are there freaks who have success from day 1? Yes, without question. But so many of those guys are runners, and so many of those guys tail off. Is Bryce ever going to be Josh Allen? Probably not.  What I am seeing is a guy with complete command of the offense. He's checking into things at the line, making adjustments, and making timely throws.  He goes to David Moore a ton, because Moore is a consistent route runner. Bryce knows where he is and when he should be open. I think the guy with the "super processor" needs to be comfortable in the offense in order to do the "super processing." He doesn't have elite arm talent, and he is small of stature, but if he makes the smart play consistently, and he's willing to throw the ball downfield and not make mistakes, like he's starting to show, he's going to be a starter for a long time in this league, and it's not a position I'd spend draft capital right now.
