Look, I'm not trying to throw cold water on the trade. I think moving Necas was inevitable and felt it should have been done in conjunction with keeping Jake Guentzel last season. Had Carolina decided to move on from Necas, there's a good chance Guentzel would still be here. But, that's in the past.

All I'm saying is there are big questions to be answered.

Even with all the other parts included this is a HUGE return for Necas compared to what some here were willing to move him for during the off season.

As mentioned earlier, I am learning the game, but it seems to me that we were falling behind a lot and, frankly, losing more than we'd like. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that Aho has been off a bit, but Jarvis is coming into his own--But I like the fact that a professional team in NC does not have an inferiority complex. 
So my question--are they likely to sign this guy long term?  Why trade away assets for a half season?  It seems the Canes gave up a lot--draft picks, Drury, Necas for a half season.  

 

NHL draft picks dont hold the same value as NFL picks outside of the top player or three of a draft most will not see NHL time for at least 3-4 years....

The Canes have a gluttony of players and picks in their pipeline the past 5 years and this year and last year are the first two times pretty much ever they have made a big splash, also take into account these picks they traded are pretty much a round lower because the Canes are a very good team.

 

That said I expect they make it a huge priority to get him resigned in season.

      TBH, I’m not sure any team is going to breakthrough in the AFC as long as Mahomes and Reid are in KC. With Reid’s run in Philly followed by his run in KC, I’d give him the mantle as GOAT coach over Belichick.

      To not pick a elite player at any position over need to pick the second or third player at a position where there is not much of a drop off in day 2 and 3 let’s face it there only a handful of blue chip players we had almost half our defense go down with injuries some will not be retained but most will be back next year. Free agency will be focused more on defense we have 1 Rb you want to depend on and the running game is the biggest part of our offense we have picked another Rb with the 8th pick before so it’s not out of question . all I am saying is if the top guys are gone we have 1 pick in the top 50 get the best talent available considering most of our draft will focused on defense it a possibility our first will be on the offensive side WR Rb or TE or trade down to acquire more picks
