This has got to be worst coaching cycle in years

I'd say most likely to fail are the Jaguars or the Jets.  So one of them will probably be a wildcard team.

Jets I think. Glenn is in a really bad situation there. I don't think he makes it longer than a season. If Coen can get a decent DC and they patch some holes, he will do just fine with the offense.

I remember laughing at Washington last year for getting “stuck” with Quinn. They have the last laugh now. Always good to wait and see with coaching hires.

Quinn was on my top 3 for here. I kept getting told he was a retread though. Just like with McCarthy in 2020.

Patriots- Vrabel: Really thought they would go outside the box here and go after Johnson or somebody different-thought wrong. Instead they replaced their coach with who they wanted the last coach to be.

Raiders- Carroll: Only way this works is if the plan is for his successor to be on the staff and mentor him the next 1-2 years. He will be 74 when the regular season gets here. He was .500 head coach at best his last few years in Seattle with John Schneider stacking his roster.

Bears- Johnson: Holy hell did this guy blow his future. He turned down all these teams to coach Caleb Williams and the Bears. FYI, the Bears have a worst record than us the last 10 seasons. And he gets to play against 3 playoff contenders in his division twice each a year.

Jaguars-Coen: Might be the best hire of this cycle. However, he has almost no experience. Dave Canales has more NFL consistency than him. He seems to bounce to and from college often.

Jets-Glenn: Good luck to him dealing with Aaron Rodgers and Woody Johnson everyday. Their roster is horrible and full of more JAGs than ours. They are selling this feel good story about him being drafted by the Jets but it’s putting off real Frank Reich in Carolina vibes. I bet he doesn’t last the season.

Cowboys-?: Jones is interviewing his current OC and Former OC. So yeah whatever comes out of that.

Saints-?: They don’t know, they are interviewing everyone. You can probably get an interview too if you fill out an application. My guess is Joe Brady or Mike McCarthy. However, they may just promote the interim guy since (just like New England) they can’t let “their guys” go.

You think the Pats bringing Vrabal and potentially McDaniels back is a bad thing?

Mike V. to the Pat's is the best hire they could have done, IMO.

Johnson choosing the change the culture of such a historic franchise such as the Bears.  This is absolutely an ego move. He wants that on his resume.  Hard to fault him.

The Pete C. to the Raiders surprised me, they are throwing some.money at that old bird.  Wonder what the plan is when he steps down.

The rest,  is a snooze fest.

I don't see what's so bad about this coaching cycle on paper, although only time will truly tell.

You've got Vrabel who was immensely successful, fired as a scapegoat more or less, only to see Tennnessee plunge into the depths of the worst teams in the NFL soon after he's gone. I think he was a no-brainer for New England.

Glenn and Johnson are 2 of the best coordinators of the past several years. Definitely seem more poised to jump into coaching than a lot of other hires recently. If nothing else for Johnson, he's a monumental upgrade from an offensive mind standpoint over what Chicago has had for years.

Carroll is old but has been a steady winner, including super bowl win, and transformed Seattle even when he was in his 60s. He seems reasonable as a guy that can help right the ship before turning it over in a few years to someone younger.

Cohen succeeded Canales in Tampa and took their offense to even greater heights. Definitely reasonable to be intrigued by where he could lead Lawrence.

Not sold on Schottenheimer but they say Dak pulled for him. You might as well see where he and your franchise QB can take the team and if it's not to success, you can move on from both.

Inevitably some will fail, some will flourish. We'll see.

He'll end up with Wilson probably or Drew Lock. Pittsburgh probably tries to work out a deal with Atlanta for Cousins or they get McCarthy or Darnold out of Minnesota. Fields goes somewhere else to compete.

Fields only option is likely the Steelers. The rest of the NFL already passed on him.

I think Vrabel is a home run and has them playoff contenders by year 2.

Cowboys are doing a 1 year hold. Maybe Deion said he needs one more year in college so he doesn’t get in same year his sons get drafted.

Ben Johnson I have no idea, Caleb is going to be really good but can you get over the dysfunction of being the Bears? Is Johnson a guy who can build a culture? He learned from the best so maybe.

no clue on JAX, going to say it doesn’t work because they’re still JAX. Same for Jets.

wtf is NOLA doing

    • TBH, I’m not sure any team is going to breakthrough in the AFC as long as Mahomes and Reid are in KC. With Reid’s run in Philly followed by his run in KC, I’d give him the mantle as GOAT coach over Belichick.
    • To not pick a elite player at any position over need to pick the second or third player at a position where there is not much of a drop off in day 2 and 3 let’s face it there only a handful of blue chip players we had almost half our defense go down with injuries some will not be retained but most will be back next year. Free agency will be focused more on defense we have 1 Rb you want to depend on and the running game is the biggest part of our offense we have picked another Rb with the 8th pick before so it’s not out of question . all I am saying is if the top guys are gone we have 1 pick in the top 50 get the best talent available considering most of our draft will focused on defense it a possibility our first will be on the offensive side WR Rb or TE or trade down to acquire more picks
    • Well, regarding McDermott, what other team in the AFC is breaking through right now?
