It sounds like Geoff Santini is nothing more than some guy trying to extort money from the Saints

He has video tape of Joe Vitt stealing pills from the team's storage.

The GM told him to cover it up. He refused. They fired him. Unfortunately for them, they didn't realize he'd kept a copy of the video.

The question I have now is whether Vitt will take the fall or if he'll turn.

It's my understanding that Santini resigned after the Saints wouldn't pay him but didn't get fired.

However, if an attempt of a cover up was indeed made, that looks bad, even if the cover up was not followed through with.

For the record, Santini is a 31 year veteran of the FBI, very highly thought of and with a rep that has been called "impeccable".

Per ESPN legal guy Roger Cossack, the guys in the most trouble would likely be GM Mickey Loomis (possible obstruction of justice charges) and LB Coach Joe Vitt (theft of prescription drugs). If Vitt names Payton as the guy that told him to do it, then Payton could be in big trouble too.

Fines and suspensions for Payton and Vitt are a definite possibility, but I'd be more worried about the feds first.

Nobody even knows if Sean Payton actually had any involvement. Sounds like a disgruntled ex-employee who was trying to shake down the organization for a bribe

Santini sent the info to the feds last June, then resigned. When he filed the lawsuit, he didn't go to the press with names. the press dug and found them.

Since he has video of Vitt stealing the pills, it's not really a "my word vs theirs" type thing.

All the info so far says it was Payton getting the drugs.

Vitt could choose not to roll on him, but that's an awful lot to ask of someone.

Then again, if you're willing to ask someone to steal prescription drugs for you... :sosp:
