With Carter, gram and tmac off the board this draft is deep at defense much more so than offense

picking in the top 8 you want to walk away with a elite player no matter the position if jeanty is there I wouldn’t be surprised if he is the pick after our last year pick will be out all of next year we don’t know if he will ever recover or Tyler Warren te from penn state either of these two are in play with the first pick being most of our free agents will be defensive signings

In no world should Jeanty even be on our draft board, and hit has nothing to do with the player.

We have a terrible defense, we still have a huge hole at WR #1, and we have an RB with a top 10 valued contract at his position.

Drafting a RB in the 1st round would be GM malpractice, even considering him would be as much, we have FAR too many holes to take an RB in the 1st this year, let alone in the Top 10.

To not pick a elite player at any position over need to pick the second or third player at a position where there is not much of a drop off in day 2 and 3 let’s face it there only a handful of blue chip players we had almost half our defense go down with injuries some will not be retained but most will be back next year. Free agency will be focused more on defense we have 1 Rb you want to depend on and the running game is the biggest part of our offense we have picked another Rb with the 8th pick before so it’s not out of question .

all I am saying is if the top guys are gone we have 1 pick in the top 50 get the best talent available considering most of our draft will focused on defense it a possibility our first will be on the offensive side WR Rb or TE or trade down to acquire more picks

You hit on a "fact" I thought of weeks ago, this drafts' success is mainly tied to the 8th pick.

It's a "down" year blah blah according to most, that 54th pick just doesn't have the same impact of past years classes, so the odds are not in favors. There is the point about overall class depth is DL and TE, should be a decent one there, but again not the impact of that 8th overall...

Seriously probably the worst one out there and also the one that started the idiocy of talking in absolutes and coined most of the worn out draft tropes.

Never forget that he said that if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful starting NFL QB he'd quit.

I never trusted Mel Kipper after he made the big, big mistake of praising Jimmy Clausen to high heavens.

I actually think it's the opposite

Of course hitting on the 8th pick would be huge, but we have so many holes and only so much cap room to help try and fill them, especially on defense.  We're never going to be a successful team until we start hitting on non 1st round picks, you can't build a full contender through only 1st round picks and free agents.

The expectation is to hit on the 8th pick, no matter who it is.  So this draft's success will be determined on finding another rookie starter with our 2nd and then also hitting on a contributor with our 3rd or one of the 4ths.

Because that's what great teams do, they find contributors with those picks who can turn into starters within their first couple years in the NFL

I agree, you have to forgive most times I struggle getting my point across off or have a clear delivery. You are right, be great if this team hits on 2-mid-any picks and they are over due for.

I was trying to this draft feels like 2013, its shaping up that way. (we don't know). Just the odds that Panthers hit on rounds 2-4 are lower than past years cause the talent is not what close to the past 10 years was. Example a player listed with a 3rd round grade in 2025 would have a 5th in 2022. Yes I want them to find starters and difference makers, but its more difficult this draft...hence why I put more value in getting that 8th pick right. I hope that helps in making sense or my view point.
