Winners and Losers - Mini Camp Day 1

Winners:

Edwards - possibly the most impressive offensive player on the field not named Steve Smith

Listening to Hurney after the draft I didn't really expect him to contribute that much this season.... But if the kid can take a hit, and be physical enough he may turn out to be worth that 2nd sooner than later. KR/PR... Slot receiver... Wildcat QB... He may be able to be a playmaker soon. Watching his development this season is going to be fun.

Wonder how long it will take him to get route running down.

i see edwards helping in the kr/pr game this year and maybe we use him on down the field routes early to utilize his speed

I think you will see him alot more then just on ST. Way too much talent just to use him there.

Winners:

Edwards - possibly the most impressive offensive player on the field not named Steve Smith

Porter - Showed very soft hands and an acrobatic catch on the sideline.

Sutton - First string snaps.

Clausen - Took a lot of snaps with the second string already, has more zip on the ball than anyone else

Losers:

Goodson - Beaten out for the 3rd rb spot

Cantwell - looks like the odd man out already

Kenny Moore - Watch your back, Edwards is closing quick

Things that cannot be assessed while watching minicamp:

run defense

rushing the passer

pass blocking

run blocking

basically anything that requires actual physical contact, as it is not allowed until actual training camp in July.

His physical tools IMO will be what ultimately separates him from the rest of the pack. He would have to be a complete moron to not be able to "become a leader." He just needs to grow up a little bit and I think he will, with understanding what is at stake.

did you really mean to write porter, or is that a typo? if daniel porter can catch too, this whole battle between him and goodson might really be something.

It was Porter for sure. I saw the catch, then thought wow, that was a nice grab.

He turned around, it was Porter.

Really nice hands that one.

Glad to see the new guys doing well.

Goodson was a wasted draft pick.

Like to hear about Clausen's velocity.

A year on the bench may suffice for the growing up a Senior year might have provided.

Yep if they had listened to me that pick would have been Sammie Lee Hill.
