I know there is a lot of time between now and week 1 of the regular season but what do you think the Panthers depth chart will look like when they take the field against the Giants?

Here's what I think it will look like...

QB: Matt Moore - Jimmy Clausen - Tony Pike

RB: DeAngelo Williams - Jonathan Stewart - Tyrell Sutton - Mike Goodson

FB: Tony Fiammetta

TE: Jeff King - Dante Rosario - Gary Barnidge

WR1: Steve Smith - Kenneth Moore - Armanti Edwards

WR2: Dwayne Jarrett - Brandon LaFell

LT: Jordan Gross - Gary Williams

LG: Travelle Wharton - C.J. Davis

C: Ryan Kalil

RG: Mackenzy Bernadeau - Duke Robinson

RT: Jeff Otah - Geoff Schwartz

LDE: Tyler Brayton - Charles Johnson - Hilee Taylor

LDT: Tank Tyler - Corvey Irvin - Nick Hayden

RDT: Louis Leonard - Ed Johnson

RDE: Everette Brown - Greg Hardy

SLB: Jamar Williams - Eric Norwood

MLB: Jon Beason - Dan Connor

WLB: Thomas Davis - James Anderson

LCB: Chris Gamble - Captain Munnerlyn

SS: Charles Godfrey - Aaron Francisco

FS: Sherrod Martin - Jordan Pugh

RCB: Richard Marshall - C.J. Wilson

K: John Kasay - Aaron Pettrey

P: Jason Baker

LS: J.J. Jansen

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Moore or Jarrett (or even both) were cut after TC. Wallace Wright is going to make the team just on special teams play alone and David Gettis could have value as well. If they get to TC and don't feel good about Jarrett, we may see Muhammad brought in to help mentor LaFell. Marcus Hudson may beat out Francisco or Wilson for one of the DB spots. It's tough to see Pettrey making the team coming off an torn mcl, even though press from the combine didn't see a glaring drop in power or accuracy. I also think Ed Johnson will recapture his rookie form being reunited with Ron Meeks and will be a starter at DT. Sutton could win a job as a FB, he has a mean streak a mile wide when it comes to blocking.

I think there is a possibility noorwood will start over williams and barnidge should start but king is a valuable run blocker so who knows

king is better than barnidge. he's not just a blocker, he's a very underrated receiver. have you seen him catch? it looks weird that he can do the things he does to catch passes when he's that big, but he does it.

You may want to clarify which Moore you mean...

Sutton was passable at FB, but he's no more in competition for the job than Jeff King.

if kenny moore makes the team, i'll eat my computer. if he's 3rd on the depth chart like you have him, i'll eat your computer too. if dwayne jarrett is a starter like you have him, i'll eat every freaking computer on the planet, and if some aliens stop by i'll eat theirs too. not gonna happen friend.

i also don't think hilee taylor will make the team. he hasn't done anything productive, and his spot will be used to keep a 2010 draft pick and/or special teams guy from pre-draft free agency. gettis will make the team. you left him off. also, one or both of the corners we picked up in the draft will too. cj wilson is on a bubble.

sutton doesn't have the beef to start at fullback. he'd have to gain significant weight before they'd give him the starting job. they're all about smash mouth football. while sutton does a good job, i don't see him laying big hits for a whole season.

we're all loving this guy, but i'm telling you he may not even make the team. they've historically backed goodson over sutton, and their undrafted free agent daniel porter looks pretty good and seems like a determined guy. if porter gets a roster spot i'd expect sutton to go before goodson unless fox and co. have changed their minds about which they like best. i don't know what will happen, but sutton just feels to me like a classic cut that no one was expecting.

    • keaton is a former Catamount.  The list I saw had only 2--Sanker and Emmanwori.  But I do recall hearing about Bowman. The theory that we are looking for specific hybrid safeties is upheld by this.  Keaton fits the "type" who can play zone or deep and in the box.  "He's a physical player with a high motor and a nose for the football. He has a good understanding of zone coverage and can play in the box as a force defender. Keaton is a leader and has earned a single-digit jersey number at Temple, a tradition reserved for team leaders." At WCU, he averaged 6.5 tackles per game, leading the team before transferring. Sanker has special teams abilities and a high football IQ.  He can cover TEs and RBs and keeps the play in front.  He would be a nice fit as a depth player.  I did not know they met with Bowman at the SR bowl.  He is more of a free safety who struggles in tackling/run support, but that is not to say he is not versatile within his capabilities. Stark is a SS who is a brutal hitter, but I don't see his hybrid qualities--they met with him at the Combine when everyone was in the building, but that was nearly 2 months ago and I don't think there has been contact since. Emmanwori is who they would love to have in my opinion.  NFL Draft Buzz:  "His ability to play in the box, handle man coverage responsibilities, and deliver bone-crushing hits makes him an ideal fit for defenses that ask their safeties to wear multiple hats." So it seems they are looking for a type.  The Keaton pick is intriguing to me because he is a sleeper who would clearly be there in round 5 or later.  They seem attracted to his characteristics, and he is a thumper who can play deep.  To me, the fact that they want 2 hybrid safeties of a certain type is rather obvious.  Maybe I am forcing a round peg into a square hole, but I love trying to see what skillsets teams value to guess draft picks.
    • Because it’s all bullshit and they know it’s bullshit.
    • I'm hoping the Jets draft Warren over an OT, that way he won't be on the board WHEN (not if) we bypass him for a less polished player.  BPA my arse.  I know, I know, he might not be that high on our board, even though roughly 95% of all Big Boards I've seen has him at least a top 8 talent.  VERY seldomly to I see him ranked lower than that.  Granted he's slated to get drafted lower than that value simply because TE is a niche positional need.  Again, Sanders is not a TE1, he's a TE2.  I mean, we tried to make Ian Thomas a TE1 for how long?  Thomas was at best a TE3, but we kept trying.
