Is Brady Quinn a franchise QB?

Clausen is just a kid who played college ball, until he proves something I think people should go ahead and stop w/ this franchise talk......for all we know the franchise QB is Moore or Pike.

I hear ya about "until he proves something"; but what I like is kind of what you are elluding to and this ............. between Moore, Clausen, and Pike we hopefully have a franchise guy on the roster.

Personally, I'm ecstatic that we finally have so much compeition at the QB position. I like them all, including Cantwell. Too many people are writing him off as a scrub, but he actually impressed me last pre season, albeit in a very limited amount of reps, and I believe the Panthers are being honest when they say they like him.

Some people on this board didn't realize that behind Moore, we had little depth at QB and more people were concern over finding a WR. I kept warning people not to sleep on a QB in the 2nd round but yet most people kept overlooking the position because all they wanted was a receiver. Now that we drafted a QB, people are still acting as if we need a top tier receiver.

By the way, I also mentioned that there would be depth at WR in the later rounds. LaFell is the perfect for us because he provides the run blocking, possession receiver that we need. I also believe that Gettis is going to be better then what most are making him out to be and while Edwards needs works, I think he could be a good 3rd receiver.

I am also not giving up on Dywane Jarrett. I think him and LaFell will compete for that #2 spot.

I really don't get why anyone has. Every negative thing about said about him was said about Moore last year. Oh he can't get the playbook or he doesn't have the work ethic and yet when I ask for anyone to find a link were a player or coach said that no one can seem to find it.

Or how about the argument "If was any good he would see the field more." Once again what was said about Moore? Every time he gets a ball thrown to him he makes great catches and his so call separation ability isn't as much of a problem with Moore because he is a more accurate passer and can place the ball where Jarret can climb the ladder and get it.

He is not as bad as people want to make him out to be. In fact I would put money on him beating out all contenders for the #2 spot. He brings everything (strengths and weaknesses) that Lafell brings with 3 yrs more experience in both the league and our system. Not to mention Fox's history of bias towards Vets.

Exactly a big bitch was that we never draft a quarterback high and develop a franchise guy. Now we draft several guys who could be that franchise quarterbacks and now we are disrespecting Moore or wasting a pick on a bad guy...on and on......

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Speaking of a receiver not 'getting the playbook'. I've never understood why the QB can't just remind him what route he's meant to be running as the huddle breaks. He's meant to know where everyone is anyway.

But I digress.

I don't hate Clausen. I really hope he beats out Matt Moore for the job. If he can't beat Moore, then he was a wasted pick. They could have waited and grabbed a backup (like Pike) in the later rounds. I want him to be the stud QB that a lot of people predict he'll be.

He throws off his back foot regardless of pressure. He under-threw a lot of receivers in college, but his teammates bailed him out by coming back and getting the ball. He doesn't do it all the time, but he does do it when it is completely unnecessary.

A lot of that was by design. The idea was that by throwing it up like that, it gave the receivers the best opportunity go make the play. Announcers talked about it during games and Clausen mentioned it in an interview with Mayock after his pro day. Speaking of Mayock, he said after Clausen's pro day that Clausen showed the ability to throw accurately deep with touch. This was actually the point that led to his questioning Clausen about throwing it up for grabs to his receivers. Mayock made it seem like he already thought that this was a designed play in ND's offense, but he just wanted to clarify.

i've run out of pie to give, or else, i'd give you some for this wonderful post here, explaining why Clausen throws off his back foot. i for one do not see this as a bad thing, because once you get into the nfl, throwing sideways and poo will only help you.

I used to be a hater and think he's overrated but I think he's a great fit at Carolina and will have a legit NFL career, unlike Sam "my arm hurts" Bradford

This is off-topic, but why is your sig a picture of Brett Favre photoshop'ed in a Panther's uniform?

That's not only bizarre, but extremely improbable.

I don't see how throwing off your back foot is by design. If it is, it's a terrible design. I understand throwing it up to your receiver one on one. But if you drive off your foot and lead the receiver, you give the receiver an even better chance to catch the ball. He had better not throw off his back foot often in the NFL, because that just won't cut it. He'll get picked off a lot.

I was referring to this point.

As for throwing it off his back foot, sure, that is not what you ideally want, but I also don't think it was that big a deal. He didn't do it when he was making a throw that required accuracy and touch, or if he needed to put some zip on the ball. In fact, this past year, he had a harder time throwing it off his back foot since that was the foot in which his big toe had two torn ligaments. Regardless, I've seen him make enough throws that I don't see this as a problem at all.

What I don't understand is why do people think Fox is all of the sudden going to start playing a Rookie at QB? What in his history makes that seem even remotely plausible? This is Matt's job to lose.

Um, Fox is playing rookies (or first time starters) all over the place this season. Don't get me wrong, Moore starts, but there is no downside to Clausen starting because IMHO, they are not fielding a team that has any chance of making it to the Super Bowl. If you want to go young and build up a dynasty..awesome...I'd rather Clausen lead it than Moore if he can.
