Whats with all the Clausen hate??!!

I have no problem with Clausen starting if he is the better player. But I do not think he is going to be the better player for a while. It's hard to look at just stats. The kid throws off his back foot often, and when he does step up and deliver he gets so low to the ground. I got sick and tired of seeing batted balls when Jake was QB, and I see the same thing happening with Clausen unless he stands upright when he drives off his back foot.

With all that said, I think Jimmy is one of the most prepared QB's coming out of college this year, because what is listed above can be fixed with hard work, and he has time to fix it. One thing that may not be fixable is his attitude and lack of leadership. But I guess time will tell.

he throws off his back foot because he didn't have an O-line at Notre Dame. listen people, John Fox is going to play whoever plays better in the preseason, period. the guy is in a "lame-duck" year, or so some would say (this, i highly disbelieve), and he needs to win. whichever QB can win games for him, that's who starts. no, Fox doesn't seem like the type of coach to start a rookie at QB... but we've already seen the unthinkable happen when they drafted Clausen at #48. and i'm not totally against it, even though i love Matt Moore under center... Matt Ryan took the Falcons to the playoffs a year ago... Mark Sanchez took the Jets to the AFC Championship game... with our running game, we could be unstoppable. and just imagine, what if Lafell becomes that other guy we've been lacking and Clausen does step up to be the franchise QB that we've all been waiting for....... who cares about Moore by this point? he's a man, he'll pick his balls up off the floor and will find a new job somewhere else... don't forget that 60% of this game is business.

carolina fans bitching that we picked up a franchise QB... never thought i'd see this day

Is Brady Quinn a franchise QB?

Clausen is just a kid who played college ball, until he proves something I think people should go ahead and stop w/ this franchise talk......for all we know the franchise QB is Moore or Pike.

He throws off his back foot regardless of pressure. He under-threw a lot of receivers in college, but his teammates bailed him out by coming back and getting the ball. He doesn't do it all the time, but he does do it when it is completely unnecessary.

He was playing with a torn tendon in his right toe. Dude couldn't push off his plant foot for the last 7 games.

any guy that can play through pain is a winner in my book. i was behind Moore up until now, and i still want Moore to win the job, but if Clausen is better, i won't be disappointed or sad should Fox put Clausen in over Moore!!! QB battles are awesome thread discussions for the off season man, we should've had a QB battle years ago.

You are right. But it's been a habitual thing since he has been at Notre Dame that a lot of people have noticed. He improved upon it from last year to this year, which is why he improved statistically, but he still did it from the start.

Some people on this board didn't realize that behind Moore, we had little depth at QB and more people were concern over finding a WR. I kept warning people not to sleep on a QB in the 2nd round but yet most people kept overlooking the position because all they wanted was a receiver. Now that we drafted a QB, people are still acting as if we need a top tier receiver.

By the way, I also mentioned that there would be depth at WR in the later rounds. LaFell is the perfect for us because he provides the run blocking, possession receiver that we need. I also believe that Gettis is going to be better then what most are making him out to be and while Edwards needs works, I think he could be a good 3rd receiver.

I am also not giving up on Dywane Jarrett. I think him and LaFell will compete for that #2 spot.

I agree with the OP. There is no reason to disike picking up Clausen, Pike, and Edwards. It wasn't an indictment of Moore as much as deciding to load up on young talent rather than keep older veterans. And this is consistent with what we have done at just about every position.

If Moore is the best guy, he will start. If he isn't he won't. I certainly don't feel sorry for him. I would trade his paycheck with mine in a heartbeat. And if he has a good year in 2010, his future paycheacks will dwarf this years by 10s of millions of dollars.

Yes, I don't understand why people are complaining so much. I love Matt Moore but I am super excited we have enough talent/promise at the QB level this year to actually warrant a TC battle based on talent and not a starter super sucking.

What I don't agree with is LaFell being ready to start in the NFL. He was scouted as a project receiver due to his catching, route running, and getting off the jam. He and Jarrett are probably even as far as ability coming into training camp. He can run block better than Jarrett but I don't see too much more in his favor.

    • I have more faith in XL improving than I do in Tmac being a true number 1 recuever
    • Round 1. TMac arguably the best WR in the draft Round 2. Scour ton mentioned as a possible 1st round edge.     Texas A&M did not use him the same way Purdue did. After the 2023 season he was listed as a first round grade. I believe had Texas A&M used him like they did at Purdue he never makes it out of round 1. Round 3 Princely Umanmielen, we'll go by Princely.  Another highly graded player we got in a lower round. As the video suggests, even if he plays only on passing down it's a positive. Give him a couple of years to develop a he could be a three down player.  Round 4a Etienne IMO a huge upgrade over Blackshear. I can see him in a similar role as CMC without the heavy workload. He can run in between the tackles and has some shifty moves. Give Canales some flexibility. A fellow huddler pointed out UGA running backs don't see the field if they cannot pick up the blitz. Really good pick. Round 4b Ransom a hard hitting safety that has played three different positions on defense. Great pick Round 5a Cam Jackson a massive NT in round 5. I believe a solid rotational pick in a lower round. We added a beast that could make offenses quiver when he's lined up with Brown. Great Value  Round 5b Evans This is another player that can block and has good hands. He also had better seasons before 2024. As a rookie he's probably leaps and bounds better than Ian Thomas. I think he gives us a three headed monster at TE.  Round 6 Horn Jr. Many believe he's just going to be a KR/PR player. I believe there are going to be packages for him to get on the field as a WR. His speed with TMac and Thielen in the slot could be special. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in training camp. I've watched some film and he is very explosive.  Overall I love our picks. I honestly believe all of them will contribute this season. I don't believe we reached on one player in this draft.  This weekend we get a small look at these rookies
