David Gettis

Why?

His upside is through the roof. Many felt he was a 2nd or 3rd round talent, but needs refinement in his route running and catching with his hands. If we cut him in order to put him on the PS, then someone else would swoop in and grab him for his potential.
pretty much this.

moore is much more of a project than gettis with nowhere near the upside.

he has had a couple years to show something and hasn't been able to show much other than the panthers need to keep looking.

this is one year that loyalty is thrown out the window (finally) as the biggest factor in deciding who gets the start or even has a roster spot. the fact that they have a couple years invested in jarrett and moore mean nothing at this point...same with moore supposedly being a home town favorite (i promise you there aren't going to be too many people upset if moore isn't on the roster).

Im not going to lie. I thought he would have had a better college career than he had. I remember watching the Army High School All American game a few years ago and seeing how shocked everyone was when Gettis chose Baylor. I thought he was going to be a star there, but I guess he didnt develop to his potential b/c he is just as raw then as he is now. That being said id rather have him on the team then Kenny Moore and Dexter Jackson

Well, I've read that this past year was the first year Baylor put any emphasis in the passing game. So that tells me that they probably don't have the highest caliber WR coach (or offensive coaches in general), and I don't think the QB's there were particularly good. So it makes sense that his development would have been stunted.

Gettis is a prototype WR with very high upside.. very raw at this point, but with good coaching, he can be a steal in the 6th round. He won't see much playing time this year, if any at all.. but he will definitely make the 53 man roster.. there is no way he makes it to our PS.

1.Smitty

2.Jarrett

3.Lafell

4.Edwards

5.Gettis

6.Wallace Wright (Special Teams only)

Moore, Jackson, Charly Martin are all going to be cut.

In retrospect Gettis choosing Baylor was a terrible decision if he was serious about playing pro football. I think a lot of teams thought he was more serious about track than football and rightfully so. There is commitment issues, not to mention development issues. The kid has a ton of bad habits now. I hope he can break them.

Gettis will stay purely because he was drafted but I would think Jarrett would be ahead of him on a depth chart. Why are people so sold on Armanti Edwards....a division 2 QUARTERBACK trying to play receiver. The only use we will get out of him is wildcat plays. Not too many QB's transition successfully to WR with Antwan Randle El being the most successful but the most he has done in his carrer is be a solid number two receiver.

Regarding Edwards... It is his athletic abilities and his and his Steve Smith like desire to win i love about him.

WR who have played QB in college:

Hines Ward

Randle El

Crayton

Brad Smith

Arnaz Battle

Ronald Curry

Cribbs

Thats is just on top of my head... Boldin did also play some QB I think.

Edwards didn't play in division 2, and he's also supposed to be a return man. For another good example of someone who made the transition successfully, look at Josh Cribbs.

At this point, Gettis sounds like Drew Carter. Fast, biggish, and a body catcher. Moore should get a chance this season. Do some of you really think we are going into the season with Smith, three rookies and a special teamer? I think we keep six WRs, and Moore will be the third WR, behind Smith and LaFell. You have to be careful about cutting players in their third year when they play a position that takes FIRST rounders a few years to get right. That would mean Jarrett and Gettis are fighting for a spot. If Jarrett wins, Gettis to PS. If Gettis wins, Jarrett gets cut.

Wright will be on the field before Edwards if Edwards doesn't win the PR job. I rate them this way:

Smith

Lafell

Moore

Wright

Edwards

Jarrett

Gettis

    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
    • I would say maybe 8 in a tier by themselves and all but 2 where picked in the top of the first allen pat m stroud burrow jackson hurts (maybe) Herbert Stafford
