David Gettis

I agree that Kenny Moore is on the outside looking in, but i disagree with Jarrett. I think we roll with Smitty, Jarrett and LaFell with Edwards and Gettis next in line. The latter 2 being our return guys from day 1. I would keep Jarrett on a short leash, but being behind Moose and the "loyal 'til I throw up" approach that this team has with giving players the rock (See DeShaun Foster, Jake Delhomme, etc) I think DJ has his first real shot where he will not only be given honest opportunities, but also confidence. Again, short leash and if he falters, he's gone, but I think throwing 2 rookies from small schools as options 2 and 3 after Smitty is worse than what we had out there last year.
i agree that would be tough but i could easily see that happening and it being an upgrade.
Moore was a 5th rounder to the Lions back in 08.

Also the first Charlottean Panther.

He is the home town favorite and has a solid skill set.

No reason he wouldn't make the team unless Gettis really outperforms him in training camp. Truthfully, I don't see Gettis getting out of the practice squad this year. He is a project, the kid just traps the ball to much to play in the NFL his first year.

gettis wouldn't last on the PS...not a chance he goes there.

i don't think that they are going to keep moore because of his status as a "home town favorite". they have edwards now for that. most people don't know anything about moore and i seriously doubt they would notice much if he were gone.

gettis will have a spot above moore.

I really don't get this 'home grown favourite' stuff.

Do you want your team to win, or do you want to put a bunch of Carolina boys on the field? Moore isn't good enough. Gettis definitely has a foot up on him at this point in time. Yes the coaching staff will see how it plays out in training camp, but right now Moore is on the outside looking in.

I still think Jarrett's going to make the team, for what it's worth. With an accurate QB he's a different player.

I see Smith, LaFell, Jarrett, Edwards and Gettis making the team this year. Gettis can return kicks after all.

agree on most everything but jarrett but i can see that...definitely more than moore sticking on the squad.

i can see us going 6 receivers...the 6th spot going to wallace wright because of what he can do on STs...kind of like karl hankton.

No question he is athletic he has a TON of upside.

But don't be surprised if he begins the year on the practice squad. Nothing wrong with that either.

My concerns with David are concerns that any 6th round rookie would have. Learning the system(and routes), getting off the line of scrimmage and catching with your hands. Those 3 things are the big things that seperate WRs in the NFL. And all 3 things I am very concerned about with David.

lol at people thinking that gettis won't have a spot over moore and jarrett. even funnier thinking that dexter jackson will have a spot over him.

they drafted 3 WRs because they didn't like who they have on the roster. smith wanted help and he knew it wasn't going to come from jarrett and moore. the coaching staff and the FO knows it (hence the 3 picks in the draft).

it's time to move on from the DJ and kenny moore dream people...it ain't happening. and dexter? lawl.... funny they would rather have dexter's QB return kicks than him. if they thought much of dexter at all they wouldn't have gone out and picked up as many returners has they have.

lmao i have to co-sign this post

jarrett is never going to live up to the hype and kenny moore was never that good at the pro level. theres a reason the lions got rid of him after drafting him. i dont see how everyone can be so optimistic about players who arent that good. loyal or not

Why?

His upside is through the roof. Many felt he was a 2nd or 3rd round talent, but needs refinement in his route running and catching with his hands. If we cut him in order to put him on the PS, then someone else would swoop in and grab him for his potential.

Exactly how do you determine that Jarrett sucks if he hasn't had that many reps?

Furthermore, with all the reps that he has received, he has caught everything. How about giving him a legit shot at the #2 spot before writing him off?

Im not going to lie. I thought he would have had a better college career than he had. I remember watching the Army High School All American game a few years ago and seeing how shocked everyone was when Gettis chose Baylor. I thought he was going to be a star there, but I guess he didnt develop to his potential b/c he is just as raw then as he is now. That being said id rather have him on the team then Kenny Moore and Dexter Jackson

Brah hes been on the squad for a few years now. Its time to stop making excuses for the kid. Hes shown flashes of his talent but hes not going to be the player that everyone thought he was going to be. You earn reps by doing well in practice. If he was good enough to take the #2 spot he would have had it.

I wonder if we should wait until at least training camp in order to acurately predict who will or will not be our receivers this year. None of the guys we picked up in the draft have attende an NFL practice yet, let alone play a down.

Can't wait for training camp to get here.:coolgleamA:

or you could take the same exact opinion and apply it to Matt Moore, right? i mean, Moore has been on the team for just as long as Jarrett, yet he didn't get a legit shot at the starting QB position until this year... so why wouldn't Jarrett be in the same boat? there's really no way to rationalize why certain players make the team other than the fact that they play well. the main reason Jarrett hasn't gotten the chance he deserves (that i fully expect him to get this season) is because his first two years were learning curves, and last season was a mentoring phase he went through with Moose. i fully believe that Jarrett will go into camp as the #2, and will emerge as the #2. but Lafell will be right on his heels should he start dropping balls or somethin like that.

Smitty, Jarrett, Lafell, Edwards, Gettis... Wright may be listed as a ST, but if he's not producing there, he'll be out too.

Exactly.

Right now, Moore had what it took to make the team.

Speculating that Gettis will make it over Moore is just that. Speculation.

And I don't see why Gettis is such a hot prospect that another team would scoop him off our practice squad. 198 teams passed on him in the draft. Why would we think that changes now? Again, more speculation.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
