David Gettis

i can't see him making the team. practice squad and hope no one else grabs him is best i can imagine for this season. smitty, lafell, and edwards are pretty much guaranteed to have WR spots above him. DJ definitely if he doesn't get released. Kenny Moore is also definitely ahead of him right now. Wallace Wright and Dexter Jackson are also in the mix. Charly Martin doesn't have much chance in my opinion. There are at least five guys that I put ahead of him right now. Unless he completely blows up in camp, I think practice squad is the best case scenario.

Dude what?

Id take Gettis over Moore, Wright and Jackson. Hes just as fast as Jackson (track guy) and would probably be a better PR/KR than Edwards.

lol at people thinking that gettis won't have a spot over moore and jarrett. even funnier thinking that dexter jackson will have a spot over him.

they drafted 3 WRs because they didn't like who they have on the roster. smith wanted help and he knew it wasn't going to come from jarrett and moore. the coaching staff and the FO knows it (hence the 3 picks in the draft).

it's time to move on from the DJ and kenny moore dream people...it ain't happening. and dexter? lawl.... funny they would rather have dexter's QB return kicks than him. if they thought much of dexter at all they wouldn't have gone out and picked up as many returners has they have.

I agree that Kenny Moore is on the outside looking in, but i disagree with Jarrett. I think we roll with Smitty, Jarrett and LaFell with Edwards and Gettis next in line. The latter 2 being our return guys from day 1. I would keep Jarrett on a short leash, but being behind Moose and the "loyal 'til I throw up" approach that this team has with giving players the rock (See DeShaun Foster, Jake Delhomme, etc) I think DJ has his first real shot where he will not only be given honest opportunities, but also confidence. Again, short leash and if he falters, he's gone, but I think throwing 2 rookies from small schools as options 2 and 3 after Smitty is worse than what we had out there last year.

At the end of the day Kenny Moore is a UDFA who has barely produced and hasn't really stepped up. He got time over Jarrett but that's not saying much. I think he gets started over Gettis in minicamp. He'll be off the opening day roster by the regular season most likely. If he plays well then I'm find with him making the team, but I think Gettis is a better prospect.

Moore was a 5th rounder to the Lions back in 08.

Also the first Charlottean Panther.

He is the home town favorite and has a solid skill set.

No reason he wouldn't make the team unless Gettis really outperforms him in training camp. Truthfully, I don't see Gettis getting out of the practice squad this year. He is a project, the kid just traps the ball to much to play in the NFL his first year.

I really don't get this 'home grown favourite' stuff.

Do you want your team to win, or do you want to put a bunch of Carolina boys on the field? Moore isn't good enough. Gettis definitely has a foot up on him at this point in time. Yes the coaching staff will see how it plays out in training camp, but right now Moore is on the outside looking in.

I still think Jarrett's going to make the team, for what it's worth. With an accurate QB he's a different player.

I see Smith, LaFell, Jarrett, Edwards and Gettis making the team this year. Gettis can return kicks after all.

Compare it to the Lance Moore Meachem situation.

Moore is a UDFA. Meachem is a 1st rounder.

But for a good period of time Moore was just the better WR and it was obvious. After a couple of years of development Meachem became the better WR and he took his spot.

Here we have a situation where you have a 6th round rookie project (Gettis) and a 5th round guy with 3 years with the system. Is it really that big of a reach to say Kenny is better right now than Gettis? Not at all. In fact, I think its a reach to say Gettis is better.

Natural skills?

Or cool youtube vids?

You know, Kenny had cool youtube vids back in college too:

I am not implying Gettis is not talented. But Gettis was not a natural hands catcher of the football in college. He will have to really get out of the habit of catching the ball by trapping if he wants to succeed in the NFL. He has a lot of work to do. I hope he can get it done.

    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
    • I would say maybe 8 in a tier by themselves and all but 2 where picked in the top of the first allen pat m stroud burrow jackson hurts (maybe) Herbert Stafford
