Run Defense?

on one hand I keep remembering that Meeks consistently had a top 10 defense even when he got little money and few great players sent his way while at Indy. So I think we might be okay.

Then I remember that they were rarely good against the run despite the fact that Manning scored lots of points and made other teams one dimensional throwing the ball as they tried to catch up. Then I get worried.

Then I see how Richardson has dismantled a pretty good defense and I get concerned again.

If Meeks pulls this one out he deserves all the accolades as a great defensive coordinator.

I agree but maybe we get a vet DT and DE before TC or the season if in TC they see we need help. We will be facing some good running team in preseason so we will find out what the boys up front can do before the reg. season.

Oh my....wtf!!

First of all, John fox lives, breaths, and comes out of the womb knowing ya gotta stop the run. Why people think that will change, I don't know.

Second of all, we're younger and faster on defense. That is going to help. I will pray for a bit of health for the dline though...cause having to play musical Dts during the season will not help.

I don't expect the best run defense in the league....but I don't fear we"l be in the bottom half either.

First of all if Fox knows we have to stop the run then why haven't we in the past 2 years. We were 22nd in run defense in 2009 and 20th in 2008. And you think this defensive line will be better than the one for the past 2 years. Get real. We have been in the bottom half of the league in run defense for several years now. This is nothing new.

And younger and faster also means smaller and more susceptible to being bulldozed. Meek's defenses have always been suspect defending the run. Injuries are always an issue for us why would this year be any different? Our run defense might be the worse it has ever been under Fox.

Including a season where we lost our main run stuffing dt certainly supports your claim.

Wasn't it meeks defense stopping the run that helped the colts win their nfl championship.

I get it dude, you hate this team...I can feel it with your every post. It prolly starts with john fox, and harris is just the latest you are pissed off about. You don't believe in youth, and you don't believe fox can coach his way out of a wet paper bag. I hope ypu take this season off then. Why even watch? Don't bother answering that question.

I get you. I just don't agree.

We didn't lose Kemo until week 16 in 2008 and Hollis THomas came in and played pretty good in his stead in 2009 after several guys went down.

And Meeks defense played poor against the run all year in 2006. They played better for 4 games during the playoffs to help them win. That is your defense to the fact that all of his teams over all those years were poor against the run. Pretty weak.

And obviously you don't know me. I don't hate the Panthers. If fact I put my money where my mouth is. $1500 of the money that Richardson is putting in his pocket came from me for season tickets this year. Never mind what I paid for PSLs as well. I will be at every game unlike you who doesn't even live here. And you obviously know less if you don't know I have supported Fox more than most here and actually feel sorry for him that he is being set up for failure by undercutting him by getting rid of most of the veterans here.

I spend much more time with kids and youth than you ever do or did. I volunteer hours ever week as a youth coach, boy scout leader and own 4 businesses that tutor children after school each week. I have a ten year old at home so don't paint me as a curmudgeon who hates youth in favor of old people. Do I favor experience over inexperience, veterans over rookies, and intangibles and proven results over potential and posssibility. Yeah just like most any coach at any level. The real difference between us is that I am a realist and can see the writing on the wall. People like you go defending any decision they make like it is a badge of fandom and makes you better because you stay positive no matter what. Truth is that I will be at every game cheering for whatever product we put out on the field. It doesn't mean I agree with the decisions and won't voice my opinions. But in the end it was folks that me that paid for the stadium.

You are about as right about me as you about the run defense. You don't get me at all.
