SI Say Carolina has the #1..

If Moore starts, and looking at our first 4 games, Giants, Bucs, Bengals, and Saints, It is quite possible we could go 1-3. obviously if we have a winning record, the point is moot but, if we did start 1-3, could we see Clausen in week 5 against the Bears?

if we have a losing record early....unless Clausen can play defense I still don't see what playing him is going to matter.

if we have a losing season early, going ahead and playing him would matter a great deal. if our season is lost, might as well give him the experience to prepare for next season. then handle moore's final year either by releasing him, or resigning him depending on how causen fairs with the remainder of the season.

Fox is not going to just put a guy in to gain experience. he showed last year he will put in whoever he thinks can win. With this being his last year on this contract, that is more true this year than others. The dilemma with our quarterbacks is that behind Moore we have no experience. Most teams have a veteran presence to come in if needed. With Clausen and Pike on the active squad and Cantwell on the PS, we have no spots open. If Moore goes down we will try and bring in Clausen and hope for the best. As for 1-3, that is a real possibility even if Moore plays pretty well. The defense will determine the winner not the offense. So conceivably Moore could play well and we will still have a losing season.

Outsiders are skeptical just like many of us are about Moore. We've delt with this issue ad nausium since the end of the season. Five games is enough evidence for Matt's backers and not nearly enough for his skeptics. As for the national media, five games is a blip on the radar unless you're a large market team that the media nut hugs.

The jury is still out, some have been convinced and others need more evidence. I happen to be in the later. The meida will obviously follow the big name and with what little they know about Moore, they are going to root for the star power of Clausen. It's only natural for them.

Would 1-3 be "enough"?

yeah i see 2-2 at the worst...

The injury depleted cats destroyed the gmen, i see us beating them again and the bucs.... not to mention cinci's offense is horrible...

Cincinnatti picked up some pieces and should improve offensively. Overall, however, I don't think they'll be as strong as they were last year.

I'd like to say we beat the Giants, but they will want revenge from last year. They'll play better than they are that Sunday.

you said a 1-3 start...that isn't a lost season.

and again, if Carolina really struggles, everything points to the defense being the reason for it. Starting Jimmy after that 4 game stretch won't improve the D.....and you also don't bench a productive Moore through 4 games if the record is bad b/c of D.

you're basing your stance on the assumption that moore is productive. why would our struggles be automatically the fault of the defense? jake proved that a QB can be the sole cause of a poor start to the season. 3-and-outs on offense can make a defense's stats look pretty bad.

not totally true. There are teams that turn over the ball but have a stout enough defense to survive them. What we had was a pretty poor defense coupled with a turnover prone offense. A pretty deadly mix. Both sides of the ball prosper or suffer based on how the other side does as well.

Last year the Defense was learning a new defensive scheme. Coupled with Turnovers galore we were sunk.

But at the end of the year our D was firing on all cylinders I expect that to continue. If Moore can protect the ball then we have a good chance in all of the first 4 games.

I thought we had a pretty decent defense. If anything, it looked worse because of the offense (I realize that's your point ;) ).

Problem is that many of those guys are not here. In a cover 2 if one part is missing it throws off the whole scheme. Everyone has to be where they are supposed to be in order to function. And most of all we have to get a pass rush for it to be effective. If you think we are going to start back where we left off, I want to have some of what you arre smoking. If will take until the bye week for this team to begin to play together.
