Is Tulsky to blame?

Recommended Posts

Waddell for better or worse had this team filled with competition.  In Tulsky’s first year this team looks unwatchable at times.  I’ve meet him at the arena a few times. Very nice guy.  But, How much blame is on our new GM?  Team is clearly not going in the right direction.

Pussy footed with Guenzal when he wanted to stay. Waited to long to offer the 8-8. Lost him to Tampa.

should have signed an NHL level goalie to work with Koochie when Freddie went down. That one is legit killing us. .500 hockey since Thanksgiving.

didn’t push harder to sign one of our core defenseman last year.

I still think Tulsky was a little hamstrung when it came to cap money after Waddell left. In my opinion, he didn't have enough options to really work any deals. Look at the creativity, and possible rule changes coming as a result, of the Jarvis deal. That kind of illustrated to me there wasn't a lot to work with in the checkbook.

Do I think we could have kept Brady Skjei? Yes. Jake Guentzel? I'm not so sure.

That being said, this team is average right now, and while a lot of that is goal tending, there are several players who need to start looking in the mirror and holding themselves accountable.

After last night's game and the overall performance of the team since Thanksgiving, here's where I'm at:

1. Give Necas the 2C spot. Centers are Aho, Necas, Staal and Drury. Necas wants to be a center and put himself in the conversation to be an $8M player, then let him have the chance. He'll probably be trade bait next year regardless.

2. Top line is Svech, Aho, Jarvis; next is Robinson, Necas, Roslovic; 3rd line Blake, Staal, Martinook; 4th is Jaaska, Drury, KK.

I know this makes the 4th line all lefties, but the roster doesn't have enough right-handed forwards to begin with, that's a Tulsky issue.

The guys I'd be willing to part ways with: Drury, Jaaska, KK and Orlov (Roslovic makes this list if the Canes have already made up their minds not to keep him. He's a UFA in a few months).

This probably doesn't work in reality because RBA is a big fan of Orlov and Drury. And Orlov is the #2 points guy on the blue line behind Gostisbehere, but he is a UFA as well.
