? Mays was a 2nd rounder. I am talking about Carolina wasting a 6th round pick on another QB in Pike (to go w/ Clasuen and Hunter)....instead of snagging a S (Rolle)to realistically compete for some playing time in 2010 or be an actual backup since we are dumping our starting S.

The needfor Carolina would be in Rolle w/ that pick based on what they are doing and need.

Fixed.

Value means taking BPA.

You are talking about drafting based on needs. We dont do that.

I was speaking about the possibility of drafting Mays, because since they knew they were trading a starting safety then they could have drafted for a "need" there instead of a QB in Clausen, since we had a starter in Moore.

But I understand what you are saying. Its really not that big of a deal. If a 6th round safety is going to make that big of a difference this season. Then we have bigger issues.

One thing to consider, is that the coaches saw some of the younger guys step up in terms of leading on the field. It could further justify the purge of the veteran 'leaders' because if the young guys are already leading their teammates, then why keep the older more expensive player? I find it hard to believe that they would ditch all the old guys without knowing some players were already ready to take ont he mantle.

Just a thought

No, you are talking value in a vacuum. I'm looking at value in regards to a team.

but I agree, we have bigger issues.

actually i just read the article where harris was being shopped around and almost released. Why this wasn't done before the draft only Hurney knows. We could have gotten an extra pick

Doubtful. Teams wanted to hold onto their picks in this deep draft.

I think most people are mad b/c it is another move suggesting 2010 isn't what is being looked at. Trading away a starting S for a backup LB doesn't make loads of sense this year......I got no problem parting w/ Harris if it makes sense but Harris>Godfrey. Also, moves like this make you question draft day and picking up Pike and whatnot late.......Rolle was avaliable then if they were dumping a S.

HAHA. Oh man, you're reaching.

we did trade away our starting S for a backup LB.

You also can't argue if Godfrey moves over he is an upgrade this season. His coverage is just as bad and his tackling is worse.

do you actually watch Panther games? Or, do you get your info just from ESPN?

Godfrey had an int and 3 forced fumbles in the last 5 games of the season. His coverage is WAY better than Harris'.

My point was more along the lines of "he could be upgraded." I was pretty indifferent to Harris, but after seeing some of his stats...

If you put a team on the field w/ Marshall/Captain on the field the change won't be as significant as if you took Beason off.

You wait and see if it is one or two things.....Carolina is just dumping and preparing for after 2010. I would have no problem sitting back if the majority of the fanbase could accept that reality. Again, that ain't tanking that is building for future teams.

I love the statement you just made.

Do I expect the Panthers to be a Super Bowl contender in 2010? Not really, but I didn't expect that before the cuts, FA and the draft. Richardson, Hurney, Fox or whoever is orchastrating this plan is doing so with an eye to the future. And I'm okay with that.

However, just because they are not trying to build a Super Bowl team this offseason, as they have tried to do in the past, doesn't mean this team will go 1-15. With young players you never know what exactly you are getting. It could end up that this team is the most talented and leadership filled team in the league. Or they could struggle the entire season. But there is just no way of knowing either way at this point in time and that is what frustrates most people.

I think like with most things in life, there is a reasonable place between the "sky is falling crowd" and the "front office is perfect and this team will be great crowd".

LOL.

22 games of horrific play

2 games of not horrific play

4 games where his coverage and open field tackling was just as bad as always - but he managed to get some FFs.

WAY better than Harris? Please do YOU watch Panther games. Godfrey over the past two seasons has been the worst guy in coverage.....over Harris.
